What model is the Epi SG? Might be better off selling the guitar and pickups seperately.

You'ed get close to $200 Aus for the pickups on Ebay.

So where are you BTW?

Re: how much would u pay

yea i was thinking 350 - 400. i only had it a year. plays nice for a bigginer. yeah still not sure to sell, kinda my first guitar u know sentimental, but i hardly ever play it, plus wouldnt mind spending the money on a somehting a bit different ya know, like a strat. but aahhhh what are my options eh?

sell the guitar and get another one,
or
sell it and get a pedal

i also have a real nice schecter but not for sale.

im in perth, and im to lazy to take the pick ups out.

Re: how much would u pay

If it's the set-neck model (G-400), then I would say around $200 US (not sure about Australian) If it's a G-310 or Special, then a lot less. If it is an especially good one (G-400)(some are pretty good), then it might go as high as $275 or so. Hope this helps. I have actually bought and sold 10-12 of these over the years, some all stock and some w/Duncans. (the pup change usually doesn't make much (if any) difference in retail value)

i cant be bothered taking the pups out.

maybe $400-450 ??? to much?? again im lazy and dont really like soldering stuff i always make mistakes.

Re: how much would u pay

Whatever the Epi costs unmodded and used minus about 150 dollars. I don´t buy modded guitars at a stock price, even if the mods are likely exactly what I would do.

I mean, he´s the one minimizing his market by selling the axe with mods, why should I shaft myself? ;)

i dont get it, how can i minimize the market, when its modded???

surely with new pups in it it would be worth more?? or not???

im not judging just want an explanation.

ne way i sell this and swap it for a fender squire tele custom with seymour designed p 90's, is this a swap up, i assume so.

Re: how much would u pay

Explanation: Any mods to a guitar instantly devalue it by the value (incl. possible collectors value) of the original parts, for the simple reason that what you or I consider Improvements may not be considered improvements.

It all boils down to "Why should I pay more because it has XYZ PUs and a YaddaYadda bridge on it if I have to pay that same amount again to put the stock PUs and the stock bridge back on". And everybody that has this mindset (which is about 90-95% of the guitar buying public) now has a reduced interest and therefore the price you´ll fetch will be reduced accordingly.

Those that mod themselves or have their instruments modded by pros (the other 5-10%) may well appreciate the mods as such, but if they´re not exactly what they would have done they may not devalue the instrument as much, but will NOT increase it´s value by any stretch. The logic here is "Great, it has Duncans... just too bad they´re the wrong ones" ;)

If you´re REALLY lucky you´ll find somebody that would have done EXACTLY what you did to the instrument in every way. With this guy you might get lucky and get a slight plus on the used value... but I wouldn´t count on it, your chances of winning the lottery are probably better ;)

ok not helpful.:yourock:

but to zerberus, man thank for explaining. so i should ake the pups out??? and puot the origianl ones in, or maybe be worth advertising for the epi sg, with or with or with out the pups for 2 dif prices? remember im new to this, it was my first guitar, i dont want to rip people of and i dont want to get ripped my self.. so constructive critisism only.

Re: how much would u pay

If you still have the originals I would most definitely put them in and sell teh duncans separately, the duncans alone are worth almost as much as the guitar used in some markets. Definitely at least 40-50 bucks a pop if they´re in good shape and have most of the lead left.

BTW I originally didn´t realize that you´re the one selling the guitar, I thought from your original post that you were just asking what it´s approximate value was ;)

+1. You're basically giving away upgraded PU's when you sell a guitar with them. You'd get almost nothing extra for those Duncans, even though they're 10 times better then the stock Epi PU's. Don't know why it works that way, but it usually does. Great deal for buyers, terrible for sellers.

Keep the Duncans or sell them separately. I always keep the cheap stock PU's I pull out of my import guitars, so that if I decide to sell the guitar later, I can put them back in. I can't afford to be giving away expensive PU's.

Re: how much would u pay

+1

I wouldn't buy a modded guitar just becuz:

1. you inflated the price to include mods I may or may not want

2. I would inherit the risk that you may have goofed up the mods

3. the additional cost of modding it to my specs

To answer your question, a Epi SG 310 with bolt on neck with stock parts? I'd say $300 US, tops. Even with the Duncans in it, $300 tops.

Good luck bro.

Don't they retail for that new? In fact, last summer, Epi set-neck SG Std's (G-400's) were sold by the big catalogs & stores for $299, and I picked up a couple new ones from online dealers for about $220.

G-310's are a beginner model & worth no more than $200 used, in excellent condition. They're not worth nearly as much as a G-400, and there's plenty of nice used G-400's for sale that you're competing with. With a cheap entry level guitar, you can't expect to get much for it when you sell it. Start low, stay low.
