Yeah, my compressor miffs me. cant tell much diff. BUT... Not sure if its set right, right place in the chain, right model, incompetent user......

Thats because it's not like a typical effects pedal where you step on it and you get an effect. Compression depending on how you set it up and what kind of pickups you have seems to tighten up your attack and make notes POP if you will. This is more noticeable with Single coil and less with Humbuckers in my experience . You still get a tone shape shift with hum buckers so it's not a waste to use one. Some amps already have a nice blend of compression like sound when mated with certain kinds of hum buckers and in a lot of cases it's not a needed pedal for most things.
I have used them on and off and decided with my setup it's not a need. I get a lot of my "compression" with my attack.

But it also turns up the bass as an artifact, so you may need EQ to keep the sound in balance.
