How to determine if a cover is nickel

I'm sorry, I'm not so good in searching, it's probably discussed in the past: how can I determine if a tele neck cover is brass or nickel?

I know for sure (FOR ME) STR-1 sound the best without a cover, and that leads me thinking it's brass, so I removed the cover from almost every tele neck pu I had, every brand, I ended up with lot of covers, but I think some of them were maybe nickel....

I'm not absolutely certain, (someone will correct me), but I think nickel will attract to a magnet, and brass won't.

Isn't brass yellow and nickel is more silver

If it's plated brass scratch the inside and see

Oh and nickel is non ferrous
So magnet wouldn't attract to it either
