Re: how to re-string strats with vintage-type(kluson?) tuners
Just looked up a few pictures to make sure I remembered what a Kluson looked like, wasn't sure if that was the kind with the split shaft...
Umm, looks just like it's a regular tuner. What kind of questions do you have?
I'll walk you through the way I was trained when working in a guitar shop...seems to be a pretty consistent method.
1. Load the string through the bridge
2. Line the hole of the tuner so it runs parallel to the groove of the nut
3. Push the string through the hole of the tuner
4. Grab the string at the nut and pull back to about the first fret
5. While holding the string where you had grabbed it at the nut, grab the end of the string in the same hand
6. Turn the tuner with your free hand so that the string wraps down the post.
7. After the string grips the tree (about 1/2 to 3/4 of one complete revolution of the tuner...not the tuning key) pull the end of the string straight up and then complete the winding.
When you're done, the string should have wrapped 2-3 times.
This is kind of a weird process to type out...I wish I had a digital camera so I could take some demo pictures.
