How to record with DI?

What would be the easiest way for me to be able to record into my comp, and get great tone. Sly_D's MI Audio clip of the Crunch Box sounds GREAT to my ears, and all he is using is axe>pedal>DI. DAMN!

How can I do this?

A DI just converts the signal from your guitar into a line-level signal to be recorded to tape. You need an interface with a line-in and decent converters, and a DI box.

If you can get a line out from your amp to your computer (you know, the really buzzy DI sound) then you can use a response impulse vst plugin like boogex (free) and go that route. Tried it with my Laney a few times, sounds pretty good too (as good as guitarport.. maybe better if i knew what i was doing!) I can demonstrate if need be.

Get software meant for it. I see some on Musicians Friend. Some of them come with a recording-quality sound card: I recommend those highly because that sound card is the 1st important step in making a good recording: a shielded sound card. Other than that, the sound card will have some XLR in, so you just plug guitar -> effects -> Direct Box -> sound card and then play with the software.

If you have a laptop, don't worry, there are packages that include a PCMCIA card sound card for this purpose too.
