How to run amps in stereo?

Re: How to run amps in stereo?

I was also wondering when I get my peavey classic 30, does it matter what kind of cabinet you attach like would any 1x12 cab work

Re: How to run amps in stereo?

any cabinet will work. it can be 1by12, 2by12, 4by12. as far as stereo goes i am pretty sure you will nead a stereo amp for this.

You can run one amp as a left channel and another amp as the right.

Although, without any stereo effects units it's not really stereo, since your basically running two mono channels.

Although I did run into two amps and reversed the speaker connections on one ... kinda a psuedo surround kinda thing. kinda cool if the cabs are voiced different and are about 10~15 feet apart. In a open back cab, say a super reverb, you can invert one speaker ... works even better in a 3-10 cab.
I assume that a phase reversed signal feed into one of two amps would do the same, say run off a center tapped transformer of some sort.

Re: How to run amps in stereo?

I play in stereo alot!

I plug my guitar into a stereo effects pedal (Stereo chorus is very effective! So is stereo delay) and plug the stereo outputs of the pedal into two differant amps.

My amps are all old 50's and 60's Fenders with functional ground switches for hum control.

You might run into some buzzing problems with today's amps and thier three prong wall plugs...there are ways around that tho.

I do the same thing Lew. I use a cool cat chorus. What about you?

Re: How to run amps in stereo?

Long as I just got done messing around with a stereo set-up thought I would chime in.

I am runnin' out of stereo send from an effects unit, to 2 different amps.

I ran into large and irritating troubles with ground loops. And I don't have vintage amps like lucky Lewguitar, hence I was unable to switch polarity...

Anyway, there is a little black box you can buy, Hum Eliminator, by Morley,$69.95 list, that eliminates ground loops and KEEPS everything properly grounded without chopping up cords and such. Found it in the sound guy section of my local music store. Add that to your list Lew! (For the record, I tried your suggestions also, they also worked... Disliked playin' without a grounded amp though.)
