Hey everyone,

New to DIY and wanted to know how to test the output of Duncan Humbucker with a multimeter?

Thanks!

Set the reading to DC ohms, connect Red+White together and then touch the prongs of the multimeter to Black and Green. This will give you the DC resistance, which is usually used to measure output.
Setting the multmeter to mV AC and then moving a bar of metal across the pickup will give a true reading of output, but it isn't very effective.

Others will come in and say DC resistance has very little to nothing to do with output. It's a partial measure to give you some idea what you have. Other crucial factors include:

1) Coil size/geometry
2) Coil wire guage
3) Magnet type/strength
4) Magnet size/geometry
5) Polepiece size/geometry

You get the idea. But all these other factors being more or less equal, DC resistance can be a decent ballpark indicator of output. Just be aware that narrower coil wire gauges will give higher readings that are somewhat misleading.
