How to troubleshoot inactive volume pot?

Last night I installed SD Blackouts in a Jackson DKMG that had EMG HZs and a Turbocharger installed.

I removed the Turbocharger and replaced the tone and volume pots with the provided 25ks and the output jack but the volume pot doesn't work.

I have checked the diagram and my wires multiple times. I also compared to my diagram of how the HZs were wired and everything seems to make sense. The tone pot works but the volume pot does not do anything.

Is there a way with a Multimeter to troubleshoot this? What is the best approach? I am assuming I have either a bad pot or possibly a cold solder joint - can this be found via the multimeter?

This is only the second time I have changed pickups so I still trying to get a hang of it.

I also noticed that the pickups worked without the battery? Is that normal?

Thanks for any help

The pot is broken if it does not read 25000 ohms(or actually 25, when the dmm is set at 100k range) when you measure between the edge lugs.

Likely this would have happened attaching the grounds to the top of the volume pot. Is it ok to solder the grounds together then connect that to a separate wire to connect to the volume pot so I'm not sending a bunch of heat into the pot?

Ok I pulled the volume pot. Measuring the two outside lugs read 23.3. Checking one of the spare pots is 25.4.

Also with the bare wires coming out of the black outs, should I wrap the exposed wire in electrical tape?

Also when tinning the pot should I fill the holes with solder or should I leave it open so I can attempt a mechanical connection with the wires?

Hey did you connect the connectors going to the pickups correctly? I had the same issue and realized I had them backwards, I flipped them around and it worked.

I rewired the Volume pot and it works well now. Must have been a bad ground connection.
