I finally got everything on my Dean VMNTX hooked up but now all 3 wires on the pickup selector are off and I have no idea where to put them. All I know is the grounds go on the back of the switch but where?
It won't let me post a picture but it's a 4 contact one. It has 3 in a row for the hot connections then one more on the outside across from the middle contact
If it's an import (metric switch), the thick tab opposite side of the multiple thin tabs is the ground. On the multi contact side, the two tabs in the center connect together with the wire to the output. The outside tabs are input.
If it's a Switchraft switch (inline/straight), the ground tab is between the input tabs and the output is two tabs on the opposite side that get connected together just like the metric switch.
Here's the story from the beginning: I added the bridge to the 3 way toggle and when I soldered the ground onto the toggle the neck lost the volume. I'm confused because everyone says I don't need to ground the 2 on the outside, the volumes, but that's how it was previously hooked up.
I'm putting the guitar back together to sell, no way in hell am I putting more money into this. I've put a couple hundred in it already which was a dumb idea, how do I wire the box type?
Haven't seen a box switch since I worked on a neighbor kids cheap guitar (I think it was a Dean EVO XM) maybe 10 years ago ... I don't remember what terminal is what. But there should be a tab (with a hole) that is formed from the case itself. That would be the ground. Not hard to figure out the rest if I had one in front of me (if you have a meter it should be easy to figure out). Sorry, I'm sure someone else will know off the top of their head.
For future reference, the metric toggles can be had for under $5.
Yeah I connected that tab and everything but still nothing, I dunno. I'll probably just take it out to have it done I've wasted too much time on it.
Nah I made it play Holy Wars, I learned it on one of my old way better guitars. Lol this was my first Chinese and first bolt-on guitar. If I wasn't the type of person who has to have something right then and there I could've gotten the neck-through Peace Sells one for the same exact price. Got my eyes on a Jackson DKMG for $200 in perfect condition right now
