How to wire a Model 78?

Hey all...

My model 78 arrived today. It does not have a typical wiring. It's got a braided wire around insulation, then a main lead wire. Can someone help me out here and explain how this is to be wired up? Is the braided wire the ground wire? Then the main internal wire the hot?

yes the inner wire is your hot and the braided is to go on the top of the pot or to ground.
rick after you hook her up and play for a while post a review of the 78 i am thinking of grabbing one myself

And sure, I'll let you know what I find. It may be a day or two before I can write a review. But sure you bet.

It's a great pickup. I'm sure you'll love it. I've had two of them actually.

Hey Ed...

Ok, I did get a chance to install it tonight after all.

FIRST AND FOREMOST... I'm not a guitar god. I've only been playing for about 2-1/2 years. But, in that time, I've collected five guitars of different styles and what not. Kramer, Epiphone, Ibanez, Yamaha and two home builts.

I put this in my Gibson Explorer clone(ish) that I built. It's mahogany body, maple top. Maple neck. Not sure if it's rosewood or ebony fretboard. I say clone(ish) because it's not a true set neck. It's Peavey Tracer neck. Anyway, great guitar. Non tremolo. One pup, one volume knob.... That's it. Simple, no fluff.

The Model 78? I LOVE IT!!! I'm not a ultra high gain guy... I'm an 80's guy. Those were my glory high school days, so I guess those are the tones I will always cherish.

What I'm finding is that this is a very clean pup. No mud at all, at least not to my years. All up and down the fretboard it's nice and clean. No matter where I'm at, all the notes are very dynamic and cut through. I'm also finding that this is a pinch harmonic machine. I've had other pups in this guitar and they have NEVER produced pinch harmonics as easy as this 78 does. I don't know why, but it does, at least for me in THIS guitar.

I find it to produce that nice 80's growl, it's very dynamic. It's not going to be a chugga chugga pup, but then again that is not purpose. And that's fine with me. I'm not into today's dark tones.

I was not seeking EVH's tone. I just wanted the qualities of his tone and I think this nails that.

Ok, that was my 2 cents. :)

OH yeah... And Ed? Preach it brother, preach it. Love your signature!
And Luke.. Yep! I do. Expensive, but well worth it. :)

Oh yeah#2.... If you get one, they come in their usual case, but you get a nice little "Would For <insert your name> " thing in the box. AND if you ask, Seymore will sign it. Ok, maybe I'm acting like a teenage fanboy at age 43, but... None the less, it's still cool :fing2:
