Im convinced that this nut causes more intonation problems than it solves.

How would i replace the nut on this particular guitar? I think there are pre-slotted nuts on stew mac or other stores i could order. But im not sure which one i wouuld need.

I was also thinking i could just file down the compensated shelves on the nut.

I dont have a guitar tech anywhere near me, so that suggestion is out the window.

My first answer is the current nut is probably fine. Maybe check the nut slot depth for each string and adjust if necessary.

If you really want to go the replacement route, the easiest way would be to buy a pre-slotted nut as you suggested. You will need to measure your current nut width and string spacing, then get the closest thing you can find. It wont be exact, so you will in the least have to do some sanding on the bottom of the nut to get the nut slot depths close enough on each side.

What I would do is buy a bone nut blank and use the old nut as a guide to get the string spacing and placement for each string and just make a new one from scratch.

I have one Earvana nut in my #1 and it works as advertised. Which is, it takes care of the problem of the E, A and D chords played in the 1st position with open strings.

But it HAS to be correctly installed. Only an experienced, pro luthier has the required knowledge and adequate tools to do the job properly.

The Earvana nuts on those guitars are generally excellent and I've retrofitted other brands with ESP Earvana "replacements" in the past. On the same note, contact ESP if you want to order a standard nut that will drop in...they have those, as well.
