How would you approach this solo?

Re: How would you approach this solo?

Oh, its a half finished track and the guitar is all in the right speaker for stereo... ill fix that in the final mix.

Re: How would you approach this solo?

C7 Eb7 F7 G7

I'd probably just use the std mix of C major and minor penitonics. The Eb7 chord introduces a Db into the mix so if you carry over a Eb7 scale over the C7 chord during the change you'll get a cool C7b9 tonality that you can resolve with the C7 maj/min pentitonic stuff. It will create some altered tonalities over the F7 and G7 as well.

C diminished stuff ( C - Eb - Gb - Bbb) will also be useful in creating interest and is also easily resolved by reverting back to the C maj/min pentitonic scales. Besides the obvoius outside tonalities over C7, you get a nice F7b9 thing over the F7 and over the G7 it can be even further out there.

Re: How would you approach this solo?

nice recording wah. kind of typical sounding, but well executed. what do you use to record?

Well, it's a fairly typical progression that Smilemon set up, with one twist, so there's fairly limited options on the approach you can take. The track was built from scratch in about 45 mins from the MP3 of the acoustic guitar that Smilemon provided. I edited Smilemon's track so it would roughly fit to tempo, pulled a couple of midi files from Addictive Drums, played the bass part and Wurlitzer live and then threw the solo on through a Mes Boogie V-Twin pedal. I'm recording into Logic Express 7.2 on a G5 iMac through a Metric Halo ULN-2.

sounds technical, but anything compared to my computer recording software kicks ass.

If you were 21 I'd tell you to drink a pint of whisky and a couple of beers and just go for it. So I guess I have no advice.

How does that differ from your tax preparation method?

Here you go Smilemon, this is you and me jamming to do our bit to improve Alaskan-Australian diplomatic relations...an International Jam!

Let me know if you want a copy without my solo for you to wail over!

Cheers....................wahwah

Thanks man, that sounds good. I'd love a copy without the solo. Seems that Australia is becoming an even bigger part of my life (girly friend is a dual citizen)

Jolly - Grandpa left today and left his whisky and beer stash behind. Hmm no one in my family drinks whisky or beer. WOOT!

Rob - Thanks for pointing out some of the chord errors.
