HS guitar, which coil to split?

Please excuse my ignorance. I can't seem to wrap my head around which coil should be active on the bridge humbucker to get in phase hum canceling when combined in parallel with the neck single coil. My guitar has an SSL-1 vintage staggered in the neck, and a TB-11 custom custom in the bridge. You could tell me the screw or slug coil, or just tell me which wires should be hot, which ones ground for both pickups. Thanks!

Re: HS guitar, which coil to split?

The screw coil is very bright and sharp by itself. The slug coil is almost twice as far away and not as harsh and piercing.

Either coil will be the same.

If there is a PHASE issue, you may need to wire either the neck or bridge pup in reverse.

Re: HS guitar, which coil to split?

For anyone reading this, I figured out that the slug coil is the one with opposite polarity to the neck pickup (for hum canceling); I'll post if I find out the correct wiring to keep them in phase.

Ok, this is where it gets a bit strange. From what I can tell, the neck pickup is opposite polarity to the bridge slug, but they are out of phase with each other using normal Seymour Duncan coil splitting (black output) and single coil wiring (white output). This runs contrary to all of their wiring diagrams. If I'm right, my split position is currently wired to the neck and the slug coil, but out of phase. I'm going to record it, switch the phase by swapping the neck pickup wires (making black hot and white ground), and record again; hopefully the recordings will prove me right. If not, well... I'm stumped.
