・ Flame Maple/Mahogany body
・ 3pcs. Maple neck
Maple fingerboard
・ Edge Pro bridge
・ DiMarzio Paf Pro (H) neck pu
・ DiMarzio Blue Velvet (S) mid pu
・ DiMarzio Paf Pro (H) bridge pu
・ Cosmo Black hardware

hi dudes...on my road to "the ultimate guitar" i´ve found this one on the japanese market...all is ok, but i´m going to change at least the bridge and mid pups...

that PAF Pro neck pup is ok (although i could change it for an Air Norton, 59' or maybe a duncan jazz) but the bridge does not work for my tastes (yep, metal/prog metal) so i´ll put a Custom trembucker there (or other ceramic magnet model)...and about the mid pup, i´m not very friend of the single coil sound, but i think it´s a good way to go into other styles and tones (Andy Timmons - Electric Gypsy f.e.)...that DM Blue velvet is way too vintage-like...so i´ve found that SSL-4 Quarter pound flat pup. "...Lead playing with this pickup easily cuts above a humbucker..." that sentence is pretty much what i´m looking for...

so the whole set would be like: PAF Pro (n), SSL-4 (m), TB-5 (b)?¿?

which SD whole set do you think could match up also?

thanks a lot

Re: HsH set for this axe

you dont see a maple fretboard ibanez around that often.. and even less one who doesnt have butt ugly dots as inlays. whats the neck specs? mahagony body too.. thats the original edge floyd right? not the powdered **** they sell nowadays?

if the neck aint that paper thin wizard2 crap, you're in for a good solid guitar.

pups.. well, you might be in for a treat with the paf pro in the bridge, it aint your everyday high octane balls to the wall metal pup, but you can get awesome tones from it.
i'd say for prog metal, you dont really need a duncan distortion. maybe a full shred bridge and neck? or a jazz neck. you cant really go wrong with the JB either

i vote for the full shred set

about the neck specs:
scale - 25.5"
width at nut - 43 mm
at 21th fret - 56 mm
thickness at 1st fret - 17 mm
at 12th fret - 20 mm
radius - 430

i really need thin necks (although that neck is not the current super wizard model) to shred, cause i haven´t got big hands nor long fingers...i´ve tried these ultra and neck-thru ultra necks (thickness at 1st fret 19.5 mm, at 12th fret 21.5 mm) but i can´t play so much time than i can do with thinner necks...do you think the thickness of the neck is a huge tonal fact for an axe?

about the bridge...yap it´s the new edge pro bridge, but, although i prefer the old lo-pro edge ones, i consider the edge pro (not the edge pro 2, maybe the one you are talking about...) the only decent alternative to the original floyd rose pro. The joint of that guitar is one of those called "all access" (the ones they used on the USA customs) and while they have the pros and cons of a bolt-on guitar they have that neck-thru feel of playing last frets without any problem...

and the pups...mmm not sure of a JB w maple firgerboards (maybe too bright...) and i prefer ceramics over alnico 5 pups for bridge, so i was looking for a custom or distortion trembuckers (i dunno i need a mid-focused pup or a scooped-mid one, what do you think?).

i´ll surely go for a Jazz for neck if i don´t keep the Dimarzio on the axe.

mmmmm....and that lil screamin demon, it´s a huge idea also...hum cancelling/ceramic bar, that eq...(i love the look of that pup also!!!).

thanks a lot guys....

btw, more opinions?

thats one hell of a thin neck

i dont know what they're all called, but the old edges were decent units, new edges suck donkey balls

it was all just a suggestion.. the mahagony body would counterweight that mable neck a bit (whats the maple cap thickness? 1/8th or 1/4th?) the JB can just as well sound good in it
the whole axe is pretty much mid pushed. mahagony will give you lower mids whereas all the maple will add some upper mids and a bit of trebble. i say, listen to soundclips, ask around more, check out diferent EQ's and see what would suit YOU best.

thoroughly listened to the soundclips on the duncan site..
the full shred, JB, custom, distortion

to me, the full shred is kind of middle ground tonaly between the JB and custom, it's got a fuller sound than the JB, but not as fat as the custom, while it's got more upper mids than the custom, but again not as much as the JB, the distortion compares more to the JB, but a bit fuller sounding and a LOT! more agressive than the other 3

out of the 4, the JB and full shred have the best clean sounds. (again judging by the duncan soundclips) they are chimy and fresh sounding, where the bottom end prevails in the custom and distortion and they sound a little bit muffled

maybe you can try to add a ceramic mag into the FS bridge and see how you like it. it'll be a bit more agressive and a bit tighter, lose a little bit of it's low end, but it'll cut more if you ask me, but i have limited experience with magnet swaps

man, i'm starting to like the full shred more and more.. never gave it a fair trial till now. i might consider the FS set if i'll buy the jackson... cool =)

LOL

mmmmm....and that lil screamin demon, it´s a huge idea also...hum cancelling/ceramic bar, that eq...(i love the look of that pup also!!!).

thanks a lot guys....

btw, more opinions?

that lil demon sure looks sexy, doesnt it hehe

i hope i helped a little bit more

no more from me for the moment

*edit*
on a sidenote.. i think this is the 1st time i ever went out of my way for an ibanez guitar HAHAHA

and dude, put some mounting rings on.. just for looks sake. gawd i hate exposed pup cavities

Re: HsH set for this axe

well....there are different opinions on new bridges...beeing honest...the only thing they´ve changed is the how-to-suit-the-string-into-the-bridge (:D) system...the rest is the same....a low pro bridge...the korean stuff "wears" edge pro 2...which are made with a cheaper kind of metal than edge pro "1", that are a very solid ones...they return to pitch like the old ones also, so...but btw i can also mod the guitar changing that w original floyd rose

i have no idea of the cap thickness...i would have to ask them for that...

and i will surely use the return policy with the bridge pup....i think i would try the custom trembucker at first and, if not happywith it, will go for the full shred (or try to mod the FS...i have to learn to swap magnets first :D)

thanks davey ;)

hmm.. i knew it was the edge 2 but thought it was the 'new and improved' older edge pro. i know it sucks. a friend has it and the saddles are worn out after a about two years of playing. plus i've seen a broken one (allthough the (ab)user had to throw the guitar around literally to break it)

(the bold stuff... man, can you actually confirm that the guitars which have edge 2's are made in korea? or that the materials/hardware they use is made in korea and then assembeled in japan or something like it?)

so the edge pro units are still the same ones the did before? the schaller (or kahler . i forget which ones always) knockoffs (the same ones that do those jackson JT580 trems right?) they are ok for floyd knockoffs, allthough there's no beating the OFR

thanks davey ;)

absolutely no problem, was a pleasure =) i dont get into such debates around here so often hehe, and especailly into ones where people would actually listen to what i have to say :laugh2:

be sure to chime in when you make the purchase with a couple of sound clips

i´m starting 2 projects (i have to buy the equipment first....a mesa dual rectifier and a Lead guitar...in 3 o 4 months i´ll have both)

one is a kind of viking/black metal band (a la amon amarth) with a bit of thrash (a la death) and neoclasical soloing (a la necrophagist :D :saeek: :saeek:

the other one is a progresive metal band (but i don´t want that kind of singer, like dream theater or shympony x...i´m more into james hetfield kind of singer, or peavey...) think of nevermore, rage (last 2 records) w/ a bit of dark tranquility or in flames...

they don´t have names yet....

all we need is the equipment...the other guitar player has a warlock neck trhu and a triple xxx...

i´ve seen some of your tunes...do you know sphinx? one of the members is living very close to a friend of mine

Re: HsH set for this axe

yea, i know sphinx. been talking to Jose (their bassist) lately, thats why i asked hehe.

thanks for checking out my clips =)

and good luck with the gear

actually all models except the signature ones (less js100 and a few more) and prestige ones are made in korea, and they have all edge pro 2 bridges if not ibanez copies of the original floyd rose...

the new edge pro are a kind of modern looking lo-pro edges...there is no advance at all...only a better looking bridge...
the only lo-pro built, right now, is mounted on the k7 signature or custom axes...

i know for the korean JEM fiasco.. but the rest :laugh2: i cant believe it LOL :haha: :lmao:

heh... hehe. would explain why most of them are so crappily assembeled

priceless

Re: HsH set for this axe

...so i´ll finally go for the Custom trembucker, Li'l Screamin' Demon and Jazz model set...
It seems i´ll have to wait til february to purchase the guitar but i´m ordering the pups tomorrow morning ;)

i will buy that pandora digital recording too, so i´ll be able to record some (decent) clips ...i´ll put a couple tunes of the new axe with that set (as long as i will put some clips of the other guitars)

thanks a lot for the replies dudes

see ya
