HSS 250K and 500K vol pot

I am trying to wire up a Strat with a HSS config (5 way switch) but I want to be able to have a 250K pot for the singles and a 500K pot for the HB. I tried the wiring diagram on guitar nuts. http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/twovol.php
The HB is just to dark and muddy sounding this way. I am presuming this is from the 2 volumes being in parallel.

I don't necessarily need 2 volumes. Would wiring a 500k resistor from ground to the the neck+ and mid+ give me the 250k on the singles when switched to those positions? It seems like it would work on paper but I would like a second opinion before I tear everything apart again.
I am referring to this diagram for my idea. http://www.guitarnuts.com/wiring/stockstrat.php

Thanks

Re: HSS 250K and 500K vol pot

There's several ways to go about it.

One is very simple. Wire up one 500k volume and two 250k tones. Hook up the tone controls to the neck and middle pickups only and leave the bridge humbucker without a tone control. That should help keep the singles from being too bright yet balanced with the bridge pickup.

Another one is the 500k resistor trick. I have a diagram to do that extact thing. You can read about it on my site here, http://www.erikhansen.net/?p=57.

Try both and then go with the one you like best.
