HSS humbucker help

Hi all

I have an old Ibanez 540S HSS from the 80's and looking to replace the original pickups that are starting to fail. Love 80's big hair metal/rock sound and looking for a recommendation. The bridge will most likely be the super reliable JB but i am considering a Custom 5 or even a Distortion. Neck will be a hotrail but the middle position is causing me grief. Have considered all options including a hot rail in the middle and neck. A 59 in the neck and hotrail in the middle and even a JB in the middle and hotmail in the neck.

Tried to search but can't find anything so hoping someone can help out and would prefer it to be a single sized humbucker and even consider

Cheers

Re: HSS humbucker help

Man, I'll tell you what, Seymour Duncan has the 21 day swap policy. If you don't like it send it back and get a different one. I tried a Lil'59 in my bridge and it was too weak, so I contacted SD, sent in the Lil '59 and they sent me out a Hot Rail for bridge, no questions asked!
Also, reading the descriptions on the SD Humbucker page helps me narrow down the selection, then I ask for specific questions to narrow it down even further.
Good luck!

Welcome to the forum!

I agree, the bridge should be a JB for true 80s-ness, although you might want to look at the Antiquity JB. For the middle, consider a Classic Stack, which will keep all positions humbucking, yet give a little strat-ness in there.
