Re: HSS wiring

Can you take several pics of your wiring and post them? Also, if you are working from a diagram, please post that, too.

Wired up this way and no response position 5,2,1. 3 and 4 work. Swapped 5 way switch and wired standard only 1,5 work.

Re: HSS wiring

Gonna need some more details if you want some help... pics of your wiring, what pickups you are using, etc. Something is wrong, but we can't help based solely on a diagram of how you want it to be... we need to see what it IS right now.

Re: HSS wiring

Trying for the autoslpit i have 2 basic fender single coils and a brand new screamon demon. I tried switching green and black both ways give same results on this diagram only position 3 and 4 work. Wiring triple checked have no pics yet

Re: HSS wiring

something is obviously wrong with the wiring. on the left side of the 5way switch (as viewed in the diagram above), you do have the common tab run to the volume right?

Re: HSS wiring

i say this half joking but its obviously not wired like the diagram since it isnt working ;)

what i am asking is if you look at the 5way switch (they are not all the same unfortunately) there are four tabs on each side. one of them (per side) is the common tab that is always in the circuit. this is the tab that should be wired to the volume control, in the diagram it is the bottom tab on the left side but its possible your 5way has the common tabs reversed. the auto split side shouldnt mess anything up since it isnt connected to the other side at all. it just has the red/white series coil connection on one tab and a ground wire on another so when in the bridge/middle position it grounds out the series link leaving only one coil in the circuit

Thats what i thought jeremy there inline 5 ways straight one is a carvin and the other came out of working HSS i even tried wiring it up standard no split when i did that position 1 and 5 didnt work. Checked the pickups on meter the demon is brand new

Re: HSS wiring

if you have a meter you should be able to track down whatever is going on. its not an overly complicated wiring schematic and the fact that 1 & 5 dont work is odd. do 2, 3 & 4 all sound the same?

Re: HSS wiring

Well chalk that up its the import 5 way switch wires up different. Now to find that ?

Re: HSS wiring

Hmmm. I've mapped out the innards of one of the switches Ibanez uses, so I thought there might be a chance of figuring it out... but standard Strat-style switches are easy to find and relatively inexpensive. At least you know the problem now and the easy remedy.

Re: HSS wiring

5-way switches come with the "common" terminal on opposite ends, depending on the switch manufacturer. Examine it closely.
