HTmetal5 + Tubemeister + Quad-tracking = MEATY

So this is actually an old song from my death metal side project. I decided to tentatively resurrect it and record (nicely) the old demo songs I was working on several years ago.

This is one of those songs. No vocals on it yet, and I have to put in a solo near the end still.

I used two guitars, two amps and two speakers. Also, this is my first time recording the Blackstar HT Metal 5H. It's good, I like it.

100%L - Polaris, Blackstar, Retro 30
100%R - Polaris, H&K, Retro 30
42%L - Cutlasscaster, H&K, ET65
42%R - Cutlasscaster, Blackstar, ET65

All the leads were done using the Blackstar and the Retro 30. I used the Cutlasscaster for the leads in the first half, and the tapping lead in the 2nd half I used the Polaris.

The thing is compressed to hell, but holy crap it sounds heavy. enjoy!

Listened again. It's like wtf, how thick can it go! Pretty wild how those amps complement each other.

hahaha

When I was playing with the amp settings and mic placement all I did was try to find a good tone that was as close to my ideal produced tone.

Between the guitars, Cutlasscaster had better cutting power, but the Polaris had better growl in the lows.
Between the speakers, the Retro 30 was tighter and more middy, and the ET65 was a bit mid-scooped compared to the Retro 30, looser low end, but more oomph in the lows too.
And between the amps, the Blackstar had more prominent lows and low mids, and the Tubemeister had more presence in the upper mids and more fizz in the highs.

I figured regardless of what I did, the natural characteristics of the gear would end up shining through, so I didn't bother forcing anything, just found a good, usable tone and went for it.

Meaty is right....that is MONSTER tone! Dark with a bit of fat, spongy, roundness to it too...

...killer tune \m/
