Hughes and kettner valve preamps, tubeman, it it stereo?

Re: Hughes and kettner valve preamps, tubeman, it it stereo?

A friend just asked me and i said "ill ask the experts" ;)

Re: Hughes and kettner valve preamps, tubeman, it it stereo?

Since it's either run into a power amp or a mixer, wouldn't it be dependent on those?

Sorry, I never really had experience with H&K Preamps, just the regular amp line.

Re: Hughes and kettner valve preamps, tubeman, it it stereo?

Thats what i actually thought, that its just makes a tone which then goes into the poweramp and its up to the poweramp to make it stereo or whatever?

Any other comments on this?

Re: Hughes and kettner valve preamps, tubeman, it it stereo?

Generally, the term "stereo" refers to two independent channels of audio, with different audio information. A single guitar, run into a single pre-amp, run into two power amps/cabinets, is just using two speakers. Its not stereo per se.

The exception to this, would be if you run into something like a stereo chorus pedal, or something that actually creates two different signal chains. Running this into two amps/cabinets would be true stereo.

Or, a guitar with two p'ups, each with their own output jack could be considered true stereo. Its mainly a matter of the two channels carrying slightly different audio information.

I ask because a friend is looking at what preamp to buy and hes been using a solid state preamp into a valve power amp, which is stereo, and i guess hed be concerned about stereo stuff cos hes used to using the effects out of his digital preamp.

But i suppose this doesnt matter with a valve preamp which is just for tone does it?
