HUM CANCELLING PICKUP CONFIGURATIONS ON 3 PICK UP TELE

Would just like to clarify the position regarding pick up windings on a 3 pick up Telecaster. Normally, when replacing the middle pup with a RWRP one you get hum cancelling with bridge and neck and bridge and middle but if you use a non RWRP one you get hum cancelling with bridge and neck and neck and middle. Also , is it correct that some Fender Tele neck pickups installed on some Nashville models are not RWRP and therefore behave more like the Strat pickup configuration as regards hum cancelling combinations. This may seem to be an obvious but I would like to be sure my understanding is correct. Thanks.

RW RP middle gives you hum cancelling for n/m & b/m, as they are combos of a regular and rw pickup. If the bridge and neck are the same polarity/wind then there is no hum cancelling.

Thanks for your response AlexR. I am, however, quite surprised that you do not agree with my conclusions and cannot see how you think neck and middle is hum cancelling with a RWRP middle. As far as I am aware Tele neck pups are RWRP so that they are hum cancelling with the bridge pup. Two RWRPs together are not hum cancelling. Surely, to get hum cancelling for the neck and middle ,the middle pup needs to be non RWRP as stated in my original post.

Although I have rewired very many guitars, I do not profess to be an expert on the physics of pick ups but still believe my assumptions in my original post are correct.

You can go with a RWRP bridge pickup. That's how I run it, so you can have hum cancelling for the bridge+middle and bridge+neck combos. Also, the neck and middle pickups out of phase will be hum cancelling if it is the bridge pickup that is RWRP. I used to have a RWRP middle, but I use the bridge+neck and middle+neck OOP combos more than the middle+neck in phase combo. Decide what you like best.

The middle pup we are using is RWRP. There will be series and OOPs options for the bridge/neck and bridge middle. Agree with you that OOPs and especially OOPS in series are very usable tones.
