for the Les paul, whats a good Bridge
PU to go with this?
would the Duncan CC work ok

i do have a Gibson 498t Bridge
PU but i figured this would prob
be a mismatch and better with
a Duncan.

shoot me with your suggestions
please

cheers Bruce

Re: humbucker Bridge decision

The CC goes very well with it, and I even like that set more than an APH set, since I kinda like the CC more than the APH bridge. The C-5 is the closest to your 498T, but it's more sweet and refined sounding....and maybe a little less aggressive in the mids.

A Custom is great for all out rocking....one of the ballsiest pickups you can put in a LP. Either of those 3 always work great in a LP.

Custom - rock/metal....like Scorpions and Zakk Wylde
Custom 5 - pop/rock...like a stronger and bassier 59. VH/Rush
CC - thicker and softer sounding, more like a high output Seth Lover. Better for fusion like Robben Ford, or blues like Allmans.

Re: humbucker Bridge decision

Really depends if you want simply a really good bridge pickup, or if you want a bridge pickup that will match well with the AP2.

I just got a custom in the bridge and its an awesome pickup. I'm actually planning to go with an AP2 for my neck postion even though output wise its not going to be as good of match as a 59' or other choices.

But I'm okay with that because I've got a variety of musical styles/taste I want to play, such as a good hard rocking/punk bridge tone straight into the head, and other days I like to put a few pedals in the chain like the wah and delay and play some smooth leads with the neck ala "Slash tones". I just play at home for fun anymore so thats one luxury I do have.

Anyways, point is, before you can go further is you need to ask yourself if you want something to compliment your neck pickup, or if your just after a great bridge tone.

Theres pickups for both task but your got way more choices if your not concerned about matching.

Re: humbucker Bridge decision

Pearly Gates would be great if you play a lot of bluesrock/blues/bluesy hard rock. CC in bridge would give very middy and fat tone, not great for much more than smooth jazzy overdriven tones, hard rock á la VH (though in LP, PG might be better for that).
Custom/APH would give perfect John Sykes tones, bridge for riffing and chording, neck for fat leads (the guy used Dirty Fingers/PAF setup, with neck pup tone rolled of a bit).
It really depends on what sort of tone you want from the bridge pup.

Re: humbucker Bridge decision

I am a custom lover but, I dont like how the EQ of the Custom and the APH match up. The CC or the C5 would be a better choice IMO.

The Jazz bridge works extremely well with the APH.

It all depends on what flavor of music you are into and what you are looking for and what sort of guitar and rig you have. Can you provide us with all info possible?

Re: humbucker Bridge decision

cheers for feedback guys

theodie it will be a mix of stuff
rock/indie
the cult/the darkness/stone roses
/u2/radiohead/neil young
that kinda thing its for the other
band am in.

i wanted a smooth warm neck hence
the Alnico pro II ala slash..
and a Bridge pick up with clarity and cuts
through in solos, but something that
will be ok beside the AP2.

rig i have line6 amp and old peavey amp
and building a mini rack system with my
ground control midi pedal
the pick ups are going in a white Epi custom
