humbucker coils vs RWRP

For all my supposed electronics knowledge, I seem to continue to have trouble wrapping my brain around this simple concept:

Are the two coils of a humbucker wound/phased/wired more or less the same as a neck/middle pup combo where the middle is RWRP?

Even as I ask this, I'm reminded of one major difference, the hb coils are in series, while the neck/middle pups would be in parallel. I don't know why I can't seem to "get" the phase/noise-cancelling aspects of this down! :smack:

Re: humbucker coils vs RWRP

Actually, the bigger difference is that the humbucker doesn't have the magnetic polarity reversed between coils. You can have a humbucker wired in parallel.

Re: humbucker coils vs RWRP

i think the analogy is a bit different in the HB vs. rwrp case ... lemme see if my "still coming off a Nyquil buzz" brain can make cogent thoughts ...

for the HBs, they share the magnet .. so you have a clockwise-wound coil and a counterclockwise-wound coil ... whether these two are combined in series or in parallel, you'll get humcancelling just because of the opposed wind directions .. it's a right hand rule thing, no?

in the RWRP case, you get the RW thing to take care of the cloclwise/counterclockwise part .. and the RP part takes care of the different magnet part

or has this nasty head cold completely destroyed any remnants of guitar E&M knowledge? ... i am sure the other experts around here will set us straight

Thats very well put. :)

To take this a step farther, would a neck/middle-RWRP be equally as hum canceling regardless of whether or not you had them connected in series or parallel?

btw - Hope you get to feeling better. I HATE colds. :yell:
