Humbucker From Hell/Double Whammy/PAF Pro

Anyone with experience playing these pups?

I have one of each and plan on trying them out in my all maple Carvin neck-through. I am looking forward to experimenting and thoroughly playing with them since I have active electronics on board the guitar.

While my experience with them is limited, they do sound pretty darn good in my lifeless MIK guitars. :banghead:

I have a maple guitar with PAF pros in both position. The highs are not real pleasant. The vowel sound they have does not mix well with the extreme brightness of maple. You should still try them. You might like them. Unless you have to pay someone to put them in, of course.

Ah, good points! I'll definitely have my ears ready for all the vowel sounds the PAF Pro and the Double Whammy might have.

The Humbucker from Hell is the most inapropriatly named pickup ever. Lots of Newbs buy it thinking its going to sound like an Invader or something , just based on the name of it, but its actually a really tame pickup. Ive seen lots of them for sale used before cause metalheads bought them by mistake thinking they were some satanic evil sounding high gain pickup..

I'd go with the Double Whammy for sure out of what you got there.
I also like the SuperD for Maple, but the best IMO is definitly the PATB-3by Duncan.

I just pulled a Double Whammy out of a Strat, it was too bright. I shudder to think what it'd sound like in a Maple guitar. (Although, it could be one of those things that just work.) The PAF Pro works great in all sorts of wood.

Humbucker From Hell is a Strat pickup in a Humbucker body. From Dimarzio's site-

"Because a conventional humbucker senses the string at two different places, it cancels some frequencies along with the hum. What if there was a humbucker that cancelled fewer frequencies? It would be brighter and cleaner: almost glassy-sounding. In other words, it would sound a lot like a Strat® pickup, but with about the same power as a PAF®. We created The Humbucker From Hell® primarily as a neck pickup. You won’t believe how much it will open up the sound in the neck position of a Les Paul®, and it has an almost acoustic quality in the neck spot of a bolt-on guitar. Why is it called The Humbucker From Hell®? Try it in the bridge position with a bright amp - but put in your earplugs first, and don’t say you weren’t warned. "

I have the most experience with the HFH and have to say it sounds more of a bright humbucker than anything else. I have had good experience running the HFH through both the neck and bridge slots and have been quite pleased with the result. But have yet to try with an all maple guitar; man that thing might just blow my ears out! :eyecrazy:

Well I don't play with much distortion so the HFH suits me quite nice.

The Double Whammy is a very solid sounding pup, at least in the bridge position.

My Carvin ST was ordered with an M22SD pup in the bridge; many Carvin players swear it is Carvin's attempt in mimicking DiMarzio's Super Distortion. If it true than I agree with you that the SD works well with all maple guitars; the M22SD sounds killer in my guitar.

I will also look into the PATB-3, thanks for suggesting. :friday:
