Hi guys I was looking for some cool ideas on a set of humbuckers for my ESP VIPER 400 guitar. It had active EMG's in it and I tried them for awhile and I just cant get with that style of pickup I am a passive lover. So since I already had lower output A2P bridge with UOA5 mag and a Jazz neck with A3 mag in a LP. I am looking for something med output for both bridge and neck. I play all styles blues,jazz,metal(80's),classic rock, southern rock. The guitar has a Mohag body with mohag neck and rosewood fret. I was thinking maybe a Screamin Demon paired with a PG neck?? Just a thought. What are some of your ideas? Thanks

Yeah they crossed my mind. I was looking for something maybe hotter for more 80's metal or something like that. Something with BALLS!! LOL

I just installed a 59/custom hybrid in one of my sg's and it is the golden ticket for versatility in all rock sub genres in my opinion. Does metal very well too. Im an alnico 8 custom lover but that hybrid has made me swap sides. I'm in love

Far from a bad thought in my opinion!! Probably a good choice! If you want something with balls, that combo is a very good choice for that guitar in my opinion. Saturday Night Special set would sound good in your guitar, but for something with more balls, I think your original thought is the way to go: Screaming Demon at bridge paired with a Pearly Gates in the neck, should sound great!!

A 59 with a 59/Custom Hybrid is a good, versatile set. For more high end in the neck, go up to a Pearly Gates. If you want a more modern bridge pickup, go with a full Custom. Any of these combinations would be very versatile and sound really good.

What does everyone think of the Mayheim set? Its the duncan distortion has anybody ever played with one of these pickups? What is the tone and output like?

A "stock" pickup combo such as that is far too sensible and straightforward for most here LOL. They are dying to tell you of some weird hybrid set, especially if you can't buy it as described.

I am not one of them, however. The Mayhem set will give you what you seek. The only thing I would suggest considering is using a '59N if you like a more traditional neck tone/output along with the DD at the bridge. It's my favorite passive metal combo. :D

Re: HUMBUCKER IDEAS FOR A ESP VIPER 400

Those LTD Vipers are generally pretty thick sounding, so whatever you decide, try not to choose pickups that have too much low-end.
