Humbucker in Fender Hwy 1 question

I have a Hwy 1 body that I refin'd and used in a partscaster. I'm thinking of putting a humbucker in the bridge, since it's already routed. But I noticed that the route doesn't have any "wells" for the height adjust screws.

Does Fender use a HB that has a difference form? Will I need to drill out some wood to mount a trembucker in this body?

Thanks.

Fender uses shorter screws. Just use shorter screws or cut a couple you already have. My MIA is like that too with it's universal route. I just cut a couple screws.

Trembuckers fit just fine but they must have the short legs (which they normally do).

Make sure you get a humbucker with the short legs. When I install those, I always have to trim both the screws (I use a Dremel for that) and the springs (wire cutters). If you don't trim the springs, it's damn near impossible to get them on - there's too much tension.

Good point. I actually did manage to get the short screws through the pickup tab with the original springs. But only once....LOL. Next time around I took one spring and cut it in half.

OK, so a Trembucker will work because it already has shorter legs than a traditional PAF HB. (so long as I clip the screws shorter)

So that means that a regular PAF won't fit without some additional routing?

That brings up one other question:

If I buy a HSS routed pickguard from Warmoth, will a Trembucker fit in the HB slot?

Re: Humbucker in Fender Hwy 1 question

Any pickup with the long legs will not fit without the "well" in the cavity, PAF or not.

Yes, the Warmoth guard will be fine. I have an H-H one for sale. ;)
