Hi guys,
I've been using a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails bridge pick up for over 10 years, and while she's served me well, I've decided to replace her with something warmer and a little less harsh. I don't play as much thrash/punk/metal as I used to.
My guitar is a "Made in Mexico" Fender Stratocaster (Mexican-made "Squire Series" Stratocaster, not a "Squire by Fender" Strat). The neck and middle pickups are Fender Tex-Mex single coils. I'd like to have a mini-humbucker in the bridge that more or less matches the output of the single coils, so that there isn't a noticeable drop in volume when I switch from the bridge to the middle or neck positions.
I'm trying to decide between the following three mini-humbuckers:
- Li'l Screamin' Demon
- JB Jr.
- Little '59
I play mostly classic rock and occasional metal covers ('80s Metallica, for example). I'm looking for a warmer humbucker tone that is more of a match for my Tex-Mex single coils, but can still crank out the power cords when needed. (And yes, I realize that I won't get a Les Paul tone from a Strat; I used to own a Les Paul, so I can tell the difference!
)
I'm leaning towards the JB Jr., but I've read that the Little '59 sounds the most like its full-sized big brother. However, I don't know how the output of the '59 compares to the Tex-Mex single coils (quieter perhaps?). I've read great things about the Screamin' Demon but fear it might not sound all that different from my Hot Rails.
Thanks for any suggestions.
