Humbucker suggestion for bright guitar

I have a partscaster that is an alder body and maple neck. I currently have a SD 59 w/ alnico 2 magnet.
The pickup is soooo bright, it kills me.
I’ve tried an SD custom custom, a dimarzio Super distortion, and the 59 with the albino 5 magnet. All of these are way bright.
Is there a darker pup I could go with?
I primarily play 70’s-80’s rock, Van Halen, Def Leppard, Tesla, gnr, ect.

The DSD was just loud and jangly.
I have an 85 Kramer with a evh Frankenstein in it and it sounds killer.
I wanted this to be a close backup to it, but it’s way to loud. The treble really comes through.

Man, if a 250K pot with the Custom Custom doesn't tame your brightness, then you've got funky ears or you need a lesson in adjusting your amp settings!

Has the Custom Custom had its magnet swapped? If so, that might explain it. Should sound pretty darn close to the EVH Frankie with the proper A2 in there

A CC should never be bright. It's a very round sounding pickup. Squishy bass, prominent lower mids, soft highs. I'm not sure how it could be bright

I suggest to raise the pickup to within 2.5mm of the strings (about 3/32") That will make it warm. I never had that problem - I found the sh-11 to sound like mud. You shouldn't need to change the controls to 250k, but use the bridge tone control as you require.

I don’t think it has. The screws in bottom didn’t look molested.
I thought it should be a close match as well. I don’t know. Made me think it’s just this guitar.

I have a single volume only.
Also, are you talking about the 59/a2 I have in now or the CC that I’m considering going back to?

My suggestion about raising the height applies to both pickups (especially the 59/A2, getting it extra close is likely to help). You will loose some of the high frequencies when the pole pieces are close to the strings.

Your comment about single volume control is interesting. I think that's probably part of the trouble. I would try changing the single volume to a 250k if using the 59/A2.
With the SH-11, it may not be necessary to change depending on your preference.

Got it conquered! My burons 500k pot was trashed. I put in a CTS 500k new pot and the Duncan CC (with a rough cut a2).
All I can say is wow!
It will do everything and anything. What a tool!

The Custom Custom is my favorite bridge pickup.

Dimarzio Air Zone has been my be all, end all Strat humbucker for the same reasons.
