Humbucker suggestion for HSS strat with lace sensors

Hi,

I have a HSS strat. It came with fender single coils and a diMarzio humbucker (don't know which model)
I replaced the single coils with lace sensors (blue in neck, red in middle).

Now I want to replace the (bridge) humbucker too.

I tried to temporarily install a seth lover (SH-55), that I bought for another guitar. It sounds much better and nicer than than the dimarzio, somehow a much purer tone (and I like that). I always found the diMarzio a bit muddy.
But it seems to have lower output than the lace sensor (if I adjust them to the same distance from the strings, and even a bit closer), and it also sounds kind of "thin" or closed in comparison. (It has the gold covers, would it sound more "open" without them?)

What I want is simply a nice tone. There's no specific kind of sound I am looking for. Just a nice clear and full sound that goes well with the lace sensors (but it is though not a must).
I am also considering coil splitting it (not a must). I play mostly jazz (mostly on neck PUs) and rock. I like more of a classic rock guitar tone, either clean or only valve over drive as opposed to metal-ish type of tone. (not that I have anything against metal).

Since the Seth Lover PU has the moderate output icon (the blue icon, it is called vintage output) , and it is lower output than the lace sensors, should I look for pickups with high output?
Are there some that are better suited for coil splitting than others (appart from the fact that PUs with a two conductor cables are less suitable than those with four).
They don't necessarily need to be seymour duncans, but easily available is definitly a plus.

The seth lover is pretty nice and are definitly good enough. But I would like something a bit more "open" and bigger sounding (it's hard to use words to describe sound).
SH-1 (59') and SH-4 (JB) is what the tone wizard recommends. I like both those suggestions and have listened to a lot audio samples.

It seems that the SH-1 would be a good choice me (but it also has the moderate output icon and I would get the 4 conductor cable option). But I just wanted to get other's opinions. Is there anything else I should take in consideration or models I should consider?

honestly, the SH-4 (JB) works really nice in alder bodied guitars (stratos and super-stratos alike).
While I don't like the JB in LPs so much, they perfectly suit an strato, IMHO.
Other alternative you have is to use AlNiCo 8 magnets in that Seth Lover, to raise the output without changing its character.
Please, contact LT Kojak if you are interested on that way. He can provide you the right magnet.

The blue and red Lace Sensors are higher output that the Seth. You will need higher output for the Bridge slot. +1 on the JB.

thanks for your replies so far

I found out that I could put the seth lover much closer to the strings, and then it sounded much better.

But I I am going to install the seth lover in another guitar, I only intended to try it temporarily in the strat first.

Re: Humbucker suggestion for HSS strat with lace sensors

the red is a high output pickup designed to give sounds in the ballpark of hot rodded humbuckers (think JBish output). It was designed to go in the bridge.
The Blue was designed to replicate more classic output paf style pickups and is best suited to the neck.
My old strat initially came from the fender factory with the full blue/silver/red lace set.
The silver is low output and is designed to sound more like a classic slightly overwound strat single coil pickup to complement the more humbucker styled tones of the red and blue and to give you access to more strat like tones than the red and blue would give you, so i reckon the most obvious solution to your question is:o get yourself an SSS pickguard, and swap the red to the bridge and in install a silver in the middle and you'll get a nice balanced and versatile noise free set of pickups which all play nice with 250k pots.
