Humbucker suggestion to replace Custom 5

CustomCustom

Hey guys, i have a Charvel San Dimas. Alder body, maple neck (very THIN and fast), 1 humbucker and 1 volume. Standard tremolo.

Currently it has a Custom 5, and i like that humbucker but i want something with more mids, basically. I think its great for recording, but im in a 2 guitar band and it gets kinda lost in the mix while playing live.

Im considering: Screaming Demon, JB and Duncan Distortion.

The Demon is my first choice, but im not sure how it will sound, since its low-med output: The guitar is great but the neck is quite thin and i feel like it needs a humbucker with more balls.

I play rock and hard rock mostly.

THANKS!

Dude, if you want more mids from a Custom 5, stick an A2 in it. Custom Custom. Thank me later.

I'd do one better than the Custom Custom and throw an A8 into your Custom. It'll have similar tone as the Custom Custom, but with extra balls, as requested.

I like that your user name is custom custom and you are getting advice to use it. It's fate

Swapping out a magnet is the easiest, and cheapest solution. It will probably give you exactly what you want. I'd try an A2 first, and if that is too many mids, go with a ceramic (making it a regular Custom).

If you must change the pickup, though, of the 3 you mentioned, I'd select the Demon.

the demon doesnt have more balls than the c5, doesnt have a big mid range either. c8 might be just what you want

Wow, lots of cool advice here, thanks so much.

My main concern with the SD is mainly because of the thin neck, it may need something more powerful to balance the tone but im not sure.

So start with getting a handful of magnets: an A2, a ceramic, and an A8. One of those is bound to work for you, and solve the problem you are having.
