Hi Everyone
I have a 1965 Fender Mustang that I would like to bring back to life. This is guitar that my late father bought for me when I was a school boy, I used it a lot in the 60s and 70s putting new pick ups on it trying to get the sound that I was looking for, but in those days there was no internet, so it was all down to guess work. In the late 70s I sold this guitar and bought a Gibson Les Paul Custom and use that for around 10 years but playing gigs 5 or 6 times a week I found that the LP was very heavy and was giving me a pain in my shoulder ( probably a cheap guitar strap) so I bought the old mustang back from the guy I sold it to. and got a new scratch plate and remove the humbuckers that I had install as by now the technology had move on a you could get a high gain single coil pickup to go into the original scratch plate.
I played it like this until the 90s when I got a PRS Custom 24 a great guitar used with a Marshall combo with some overdrive gives me the sound that I was searching for all those year ago Paul Kossoff , Gary Moore heavy 70s type sound.
anyway I now Live in Portugal for six months of the year I'm playing gigs every week using my PRS but when I return to the UK for the winter I don't want to be putting my guitar on a plane so I thought I would get my Old Fender Mustang out of the cupboard and start doing some gigs in the UK.
So I have asked Seymour duncan whats the best humbucker that will fit my Mustang, but it seems that although time as moved on, they do seem to know how to use the internet to email me an answer.
Will any humbucker fit ? are the string spacing's the same on a Fender Mustang as its a 3/4 scale guitar ? I I'm going to make a new scratch plate put 2 humbuckers with a toggle switch. I want lots of sustain. does anyone the answer ?. I would be very grateful for any response.
