Humbuckers in Tele!?

Hey guys!

Just wanted to see what you all suggest as a 2 humbucker set in a Fender Jim Root tele? I am buying a used Jim Root Tele with EMG humbuckers which came stock. I prefer aftermarket pickups and alnico magnets.

I want to change this guitar from the metal guitar it is now and make it more of a rock, hard rock and grunge machine.

I have several ideas from Duncan, Dimarzio and Rio Grande with the Duncan Triple Shot system.

Right now I play in a 90s cover band and use three different amps in my rotation, a 20th Anniversary Bogner Shiva, a PWE Event Horizon and modified Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier.

Thanks all! :)

Love those Jim Root sig Teles.
Do you have the black or white one ?

I am, and always will be, a fan of the all-mighty Duncan A2P's.

I have a set in my SG, and i love what the pick ups bring to the Hard Rock/Grunge/Stoner party !

I also just found out (last night) a friend of mine bough the white Squire JR Tele.

i love a pearly gates set and use one in a fender and get great tones. you dont need anything too hot with those amps and the pg's sound great for rock and grunge

Re: Humbuckers in Tele!?

You know, great ideas. I am leaning toward the Pearly Gates or Rio Grande BBQ set. I don't want anything too bright or thin. AIIP as well. However, I tend to prefer medium to high output pickups, they seem to sound thicker, smoother, creamier and more fun to play. :)

IMO, humbuckers in Tele's are a great setup. I had a MIJ Contemporary Tele with dual humbuckers that sounded flat out amazing with a Super Distortion in the bridge. It had a toggle on it that split the stock pickups but I wired the SuperD to go between series/parallel mode with it.

Custom/59 hybrid bridge with a PG or Demon neck....

I just put this combo (C/59 and Demon) in my strat and it slays. I also have a PG/PG+ set in my neck thru strat and it's just as good. Either set would be great for what you're going for.
