Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I have a Telecaster with Fender Vintage Noiseless pickups. The pots are both 1Meg Ohm volume and tone. I am thinking of installing a full-size humbucker in the neck position. Looking for a good PAF type. Taking in account the pot values, what pickup do you think would be a good fit?

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I use in 2 of my Les Pauls 1 meg pots in the neck. The good news is you can use A2 Humbuckers without getting too warm and wooly.
BTW Zhangbucker offers some neck humbucker voiced for tele neck.

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

There are many good Duncan PAFs. The cheapest one is the 59. Others are the Pearly Gates, Seth Lover, and Antiquity.

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I have 1 meg pots in my Dimebucker/Jazz Ibanez Iceman. Both pickups sound awesome not overly bright in any way.

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I would still go with Seths, even with 1 meg pots.

Thanks for the input guys. How would an SH-2n Jazz neck model sound? Alder body with a maple fretboard. Below, is a photo of my guitar for reference.

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I found changing to 1 ohm pots had much less effect than changing caps. No particular brand, just the value (or whatever unit of measurement is used with capacitors).

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I once did a pretty intensive A/B between 250k and 1 meg (volume/tone.) The results are not as mind-bending as you would think, in my opinion 1 meg won't "fix" a pickup you already feel is too dark and it won't ruin the tone of a pickup you like either.

It’s not really a question of fix. Those pots are what my guitar came stock with. I just want to get a good PAF style pick up that works like that.

Re: Humbuckers with 1Meg Ohm Pots

I’d go for an Antiquity. Just because it’s my favorite.

Or a Seth with the cover removed for a bit rawer, more ballsy sound.

I leave the covers on my Antiquitys but I remove them from my Seth’s.

Just personal preference I guess.

I don’t like the Jazz. Not the sound I go for. Not ballsy or raw enough or...something.

Just doesn’t mesh with my tastes and playing style.

I’ve heard Jolly rocking with a set of Jazz pickups and he makes them sound great.

They don’t work for me tho.

FWIW I have a bridge Brobucker hooked up to a single 1M volume pot and it sounds great.
