Humbuker or Trembuker? help make a choice

Hi all.
I will soon be going in for a JB. But got a problem. I got a fixed bridge on my Axe but the string spacing measured from the low E to the high E is exactly 2inches, so would going in for a JB Humbuker make my E strings "fall out". And then again would going in for the Trembucker version cause the poles for the E strings of the pup to fall out .

I went through the FAQ , this is what was said :-Trembuckers are designed for wider string most commonly associated with Floyd Rose or vintage vibrato bridges (often called Tremolos) with a string spacing of 2.070" or 52.6mm, measured center of high string to center of low string over the bridge pickup. Humbuckers are designed for bridges with traditional Gibson humbucker string spacing of 1.925" or 48.9mm, measured center of high string to center of low string over the bridge pickup. Humbucker spaced pickups work in both bridge and neck positions, even with a Trembucker-spaced bridge pickup. A quick and easy way to tell which you need is to measure from the middle of the high string to the middle of the low string, directly over the pickup. If the distance is greater than two inches or 50mm, go for a Trembucker. If it's less than two inches or 50mm, go for a humbucker.

PLS HELP

just get a standard humbucker. to me it sounds like what you need. (it doesn't make a tonal difference anyway)

besides, later you may want to put the JB in another guitar with a standard bridge.

Hi cory thanks for the reply
I know it wont make a diff tonally. What I am concerned is would my E strings FALL OUT?

Re: Humbuker or Trembuker? help make a choice

Go for the standard size. I put a trembucker in my strat (w/a trem) and it did not fit well. I the standard size fit better. The low E I would not worry about, a thicker high E may help (greater magnetic field w/a larger gauge). Depending on how different the string spacing is, you may get a decrease in volume when bending, but that is only if the string spacing is way off.

ok thanks for the help, but still looking for more advice on this.
I do a quite bit of bending.
hey big black cld u tell me what is the distance from your low E to the high E at the bridge pickup?

Re: Humbuker or Trembuker? help make a choice

i have a fixed bridge guitar with a standard (non trem spaced) JB in the bridge position .. i measured from center of E to center of e right over the lower coil pole pieces .. it is exactly 2" ... the pole pieces are not PERFECTLY aligned, but both E and e still pass over the poles ... and the JB sounds amazing in this guitar (i bend alot too) ... i say you can get the non trem spaced version and prepare to be thrilled with your tone!!

cheers,

Re: Humbuker or Trembuker? help make a choice

i have a strat with a trem. I have the regular sized JB in there. It lines up pretty damn accurate with the strings. I've experienced absolutely NO decrease in volume while bending. HOWEVER, if you think you sense a volume drop, try raising the screw pole of the particular string to compensate for the volume loss.
There won't be a tonal difference if the "mismatch" is minimal.
hope that helped. Good Luck! the JB will give you MAGNIFICENT TONE!

As stated above, you'll be just fine with a standard sized JB.

Re: Humbuker or Trembuker? help make a choice

This is something Evan wrote quite a bit ago and I saved it:

1) Measure from the center of one E-string to the center of the other E-string directly over the pickup.

2) If the length is over 2" (or 5cm), go with a Trembucker ("TB").

3) If it's less than 2", go with a traditional spaced humbucker ("SH").

Regardless of the guitar, the string spacing issue really only applies to bridge pickups. Once you get to the neck pickup, the taper from saddle to nut evens things out.

THANKS A LOT GUYS, thanks alot for the help.
Tone4days you really helped clear out the isue . My strings too from the low E to high E measure exactly 2" at the bridge coil.
THANKS AGAIN

I've got a similar problem, the spacing on my fixed bridge guitar is 51mm and I recently bought a new JB in the states which I can not exchange here (Israel). Can I expect problems or can I compensate using the screws? :smack:
