humidity and temp control for acoustics

hey guys,

does everyone here follow the recommendations about storing your guitar at a certain humidity and temp and stuff? Isn't storing it in its case enough? If you do keep your guitar humidified, did you buy a special case? Just wondering how everyone else treats their beloved acoustics. Do I seriously risk damage to my guitar if I dont do this? I live in So. Cal. and I play my acoustic just about everyday. Is all that stuff necessary?

Re: humidity and temp control for acoustics

If the temperature and humidity in your house are pretty constant, you may be able to leave your acoustic out. However, heating systems - especially forced hot air - tend to do "bad things" to acoustics.

Here in Virginia, I've got no choice. The Taylor lives in its hard case with a worm-type humidifier. I tried leaving it on the rack for a while and had problems when the heat came on.

Check out the Taylor Tech Sheets relating to humidity for more info. Radio Shack sells a relatively cheap digital thermometer/hygrometer that I've velcroed down in the case just under the start of the neck.
