HYBRID AMPS

Re: HYBRID AMPS

The cleans were out of this world, handling the LP low end like a charm for me, but completely the wrong dirt for the hard rock I play[ed]. At one point, I had it running the cleans, while a Peavy Stereo Chorus handled overdrive duties. Major headache lugging that around though, so ended up plumping for the AVT as a poor man's JVM compromise :-S

Most definitely awesome cleans! I had the gain channel modded by a local amp company, Acorn Amps, and now the drive sounds awesome. It is a pain to lug around, the handle has broken twice.

Re: HYBRID AMPS

I was never impressed with the later AVT line, although the 50 watt was pretty solid IMO.

That said - without mention of these, this thread is incomplete:

Old Skool MArshall 8100 / VS100's - great stuff.

IMO - the only reason for tube output is output stage distortion. You really gonna do that?

Re: HYBRID AMPS

I just sold my Marshall VS100 mainly to make room for other things. I found it to sound great as a practice amp but not really serviceable with a loud drummer and bassist. The thing was a tone machine. The nice thing is if you take care of those amps they hold their value. I had mine for close to 10 years and sold it for what I bought it for.
