Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

I'll start with the hybrid theme. They brought me this guitar because the new owner didn't like the buckers. He said they looked ugly, one white the other black, and wanted to install some cheap chinese pups. I said "wait a minute those are Dimarzio's and I can meke them look good".

First 2 pics are of how it arrived and the crumy wiring.

The next pics are of me taking the pups out, separating & switching the north coils, doing some rewiring and there you go; a set of zebras!

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Now the question; what model is this?
Neck;
Seems like a Fender yet says "Strat". It has numbers on the same spots Fender uses, yet a different neck block on the body. This one is better than a normal Fender.
Sacrilege! A Khaller nut in a Fender, when Fender owns Floyd Rose! WTF?

Bridge;

Some one did a bad job inserting a Floyd, you can see how they took a file and cut in the wrong side for the bar block to fit. They realised their mistake and filed on the correct side.

So this is not the original bridge, but Khaller's don't use a hole thru the body, so what was the original?

The new owner said they told him it was from the 90's.

Help would be apreciated!

Forgot to mention the Tele pickguard and Strat model.

Looks like a partscaster with an HM Strat neck. Looks much better now. I don't like nonmatching pickups. Did you figure out what the pickup models are? The black one looks like a PAF Pro but it could be something else. No idea on the bridge. How does it sound now?

Ah yes! Thankyou Rand-O-Monium! With the HM you mentioned I googled it and found the foloing info on wilkipedia:

"In addition the Fender HM Strat had a Kahler licensed double-locking tremolo system,[2] "Spyder", and Gotoh[3] tuners, one DiMarzio[4] humbucking H* "Super 3" pickup ("H" configuration), and sometimes two single coil pickups (S*, HSS configuration), two humbuckers, or sometimes a single additional Super Distortion, (HH configuration) and a side mounted jack socket. Japanese-assembled guitars have colored polyester on the bodies, and clear polyester on the necks. American-assembled HM Strats have a very hard aircraft grade urethane color and clear coats on the body, while still using polyester finish on the neck. Kahler USA offers a detailed schematic diagram of the Kahler Spyder tremolo[5] and several (but not all) replacement parts are available."

¿Anything you guys know about Khallers Syder trem? ¿How the hell did it get in a Fender?

Anybody have experience using the Khaller spyder trem?

No model name on the pups but they both measured about 8.3 K per coil so I didn't expect much of a difference from the hybrid. But there was, the bridge got a very nice nasty nasal new tone.

Somone had changed the pickguard, the original was still in the case, it used to be an HS guitar.

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Whatever it is it doesn't appear to have a factory Fender neck, the 12th fret inlay is kissing the 5th and 2nd string on the right to left side like a les paul rather than the correct Fender left to right, if they aren't then I'm wrong. It looks like however it has a Mighty Mite neck painted by Fender, though I can't really tell from the photo.

So the pickups are possibly Super3/Super Distortion hybrids? How do they sound?

I really liked the bridge, like I said; nice & nasty. A mean dog, remids me of a doberman, not very big but one hell of a bite.

Do we know what the body is?

Yamaha maybe?

all that crud aside how does it stay in tune :18:

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Definitely a HM Strat neck, as indicated by the factory heel stamp.

Neck plate and carved heel looks familiar but I can't place it. Warmoth EZ access heel or something? But then the body would have a Warmoth stamp in the pocket.

The Kahler SPyder was a lawsuit model, and by far the best double-locking trem Kahler ever made. That nut alone is a high-seller on Ebay. However, it can't be swapped with an OFR nut.

Is the guitar plywood? Looking at that tremolo cavity it sure looks that way.

The search is off. :knockedou

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Actually, this neck and body used to be a Fender HM strat. The neck plate and finish look original, the pickguard and the nut most probably were stock but have been modified. The bridge is a bad swap job.

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Actually a Google image search shows the pickguard and neckplate as well as the rounded heel are factory.

May have been a Japan-only model.

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Oh wait, the HS variant came with a similar shaped pickguard. But it should be 3 ply and beveled, so that would make this a rough cut replacement.

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

It's a HM, body and all. A run of them had the strat body and Tele guard with dual humbuckers. They had different marbled finishes.

Re: Hybrid to make her look good but ¿what model is this?

I believe that yes the neck/body/neck plate are original. I have a 1999 Squire Stagemaster that uses the same heel and neck plate
