It's been over a year that i see this little lady in my sleep. I play guitar since 1980. I have 4 electrics , which i love, but i never had any 7-stringer. My guitars are:

- Aria Strat copy 1984 (SSS), heavilly modded (by me)
- Kramer 210, original but repaired (by me) with new switches, pots, wires.
- Carvin DC135, left-hand, heavily modded (by me) to right-hand
- Ibanez ARZ800 (LP-style) - all stock

I love all of them and have spent many sleepless nights with mods and repairs, but I no longer fancy the in-accessibility of the older designs (Aria/Kramer).
I truly fancy the Ibanez ARZ800 and the Carvin as far as playability is concerned. So I am thinking of this new Ibanez UV70p (HSH), doing all the "strat" work of the Aria + shredding + heavy riffs, thus allowing me to semi-retire the Aria and the Kramer, keeping active the Carvin and of course the two Ibanezes (the current LP-style ARZ800, and the new UV70p).

What is your opinion on this? In short i am looking for a 7-stringer and would like HSH.

You can't go wrong with that, but be prepared to immediately take it for a setup. Those are made in Indonesia now- nothing bad with it, it lowers the price tremendously, and build quality is great, but the setups on the Indonesian made Premium line can be inconsistent. So add about $100 to the price. I've played that Ibanez, it's not hard to transition over to a 7 from a 6

I recently bought a Dean 8 string after wanting a 7 string- since I got a good deal on the 8 I went with it. I wouldn't suggest going over 7- most guitar amps can easily handled the added string of a 7, the 8 strings tend to turn to mush under distortion

Thanx!! Since i have done really dangerous mods with guitars (like using dremels, wood files, primers, paints, varnishes, leveling/rounding frets, overhauling all electronics, etc), i feel i could handle it, in fact i never paid for set up. The only thing that might go wrong is nut height, but in this case, the guitar simply gets back to the seller for a refund. The rest (neck relief, bridge height, intonation, floating trem bridge angle, etc... is easy stuff )
There is this site : http://www.ibanezrules.com/tech/setup/index.htm which covers most of ibby-specific routine tasks.

Premiums should be pretty good - I haven't played one but would like to. They get a bit more attention to detail than regular MII axes.

I admire your enthusiasm. Go for it, if I have to acquire a seven string, Ibanez would be the only one to consider. If the setup sucks, probably due to weather differences. The craftsmanship of these Indonesian Ibanez even the regular RGs is superb, I have 2 of 'em.

Definately a cool guitar, I had a 7 for a while and it got plenty of play time but my band members at the time hated it and said it looked too "metal." I felt it was an easy transition from the 6 to a 7......

Thanx ppl! if i get this in my hands, i will go straight and make a review for you here.

If you can dress the frets yourself, you can do the nut shelf just as well.

BUY IT! Looks good, should sound good, craftsmanship from my experience is excellent... DO IT!

I have done nut shelf work for a schaller->gotoh nut switch and it's extremely hard to make it 100% flat. On a new guitar i would rather file the nut's base itself rather than the shelf. Better ruin one 100$ nut rather than a 500$ neck, right ?
