I Built This Little Lady Over The Summer Out Of Mom’s Dining Room Table....
So as I mentioned in some other posts my mom had a stroke about 9 months ago & then unfortunately we lost her in January. The stroke that she had was MASSIVE! She ended up with a clock in her carotid artery which effectively stoped the blood flow to half of her brain and resulted in complete left brain death. This left her half paralyzed & although she was in hospital for the majority of her last few months we were able to get her home for some of it! Obviously she couldn’t do stairs but we arranged for her to live on the first floor by converting the dining room into her new bedroom but before we could do this we had a white elephant to kill!
This elephant was in the form of a huge 8 person sold Ash table! We tried for months to give it away because it really was beautiful but nobody had the space to keep it so when we ran out of time the chainsaw came out!
Most of the wood was or will be burnt but I did keep a nice chunk of it & after running it through my planer I realized it was going to make a beautiful guitar body! I had some assorted Tele & Strat parts kicking around already as well as a TV Jones Classic Plus so I decided a Cabronita, or more accurately a Cab Jr, would be a great project.
I bought myself a USA Hardtail through hole bridge & I originally had a great looking USA Tele neck with a rosewood board (Which I knew wasn’t going to be built by me from the get go because I barely had time for what I was doing with the body!) but after fitting then comparing it to a Maple MIM neck I already had I decided I liked the feel of the MIM better so the other one was sent back.

It is exactly what it looks like, a pickup, volume knob, & tone control! Nothing too fancy, but what’s there is high quality stuff! As for painting I didn’t use any filler before spraying it with nitrocellulose lacquer because I wanted the grain to bleed through & for the guitar to have that easily naturally reliced, super simple, 50’s kinda vibe.
You know, like something you expect the Reverend Billy Gibbons to pull out in a dirty TX bar & personally I think I nailed that aspect? Whatcha fellas think???
