I Can Put a Strat Neck on a Tele...Right?

I seem to remember reading that it'll leave a gap or something. I'm not concerned about that. As long as it will bolt straight on, fit snugly enough to not move about, and intonate correctly, I'm happy.

The guitar in question is a 2004 Mexican Tele.

Would it fit?

The rounded Stratocaster neck should drop into a square ended Tele neck pocket provided that both guitars are from the same Fender series.

American Standard dimensions should match. MIM Standard series dimensions should match. MIJ series dimensions should match.

What will probably not match is Vintage Meets Modern, Indonesian Meets non-Indonesian, Chinese Meets non-Chinese, licensed third party meets genuine Fender.

A twenty one fret Stratocaster neck will leave two small gaps showing between the heel and the edge of the pickguard. A twenty two fret neck will mask the gaps beneath the fingerboard extension overhang.

They're all 2 3/16" wide. Some of them may be slightly out of tolerance, but a little sanding will fix that.

Yes, you can use a Stratocaster neck on a Telecaster. Like Funkfingers said, a 22 fret neck will cover the gaps.

As dominus says, you might need to sand the neck pocket a tiny bit to open things up. Equally, you might need to shim to tighten the fit.

One other consideration is the truss rod adjuster. It might be at the headstock end of the neck. It might be at the heel. Some Tele bodies are routed to allow access to a heel adjuster, others are not. A fingerboard extension complicates the matter. Some heel adjusters are recessed in a channel, others protrude beyond the wood.

Finally, are all of the wooden parts involved in this project left-handed?

As far as the gap at the neck to body goes if you use a black pick guard you can hardly notice it. This one has a Fullerton made 83 Strat neck on a new MIM FSR body. The funny thing is the old Strat neck fits better than the original MIM Tele neck.
