I can't believe I bought this POS!!!!

I purchased a Laney LC15 on Ebay 3 weeks ago.

The amp buzzed like a swarm of bees. The seller said it may be tubes that were loosened during shipping. Whatever.

Last night, the amp starts cutting out on me. Fade in, fade out, etc etc.
I played with cables, tubes, guitar line-in...and finally brought it to Sam Ash and they said the power transformer is dying.

And it was listed in excellent condition!!!!!

The seller told me to basically stuff-it and I'm not getting a red cent refund from him. Suffice to say I am going after him through PayPal, but in the meantime I need a new kick-ass amp for my SG. I'm thinking of a Marshall or a Traynor Blue which I heard rock. I play ZZ Top, Cream, Zep, etc. ANy other ideas?

Crate V32 or V16 Palomino! Amazing amps, great classic rock tones. I mainly look for a good classic rock distortion in an amp, and these both had it! The V16 is 15 watts, a single channel, with a preamp/master volume setup and a boost function. Also reverb. The V32 is 30 watts, two channels (clean/distortion), with a footswitch to choose the channel and turn on/off the boost. Also some reverb. Both have a 12" speaker. The V32 will be my next amp, and if I was just playing at home, I would get the V16.

Anybody giving love to the Marshall JCM600 or the Traynor Blue?

JCM600s are riddled with problems, mainly with the power transformer from what I've heard. And I haven't tried the Traynor Blue to give an opinion, supposedly a great amp.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY UNTRUE! However the JTM60 did have some issues.
I've had mine for over 5 years, and have yet to have a problem with it- I gig just about every weekend, in smokey old bars etc. It has been moved from place to place- the only time I've had a problem is when a tube failed- replaced it- no more problems. I'm looking to buy another one.

Sorry, it was my understanding that it did, therefore they came out with the revamped JCM600- my bad!

lol sam ash.. did they even look at the amp for more than 30 seconds? also, did you read my post in the other thread?

Re: I can't believe I bought this POS!!!!

usually laney's kick ass..maybe just get it re tubed, but in a decent speaker..but owell, that sucks. I would be pissed. I'd go after him WITH the amp in hand and swing

Re: I can't believe I bought this POS!!!!

I've had nothing but good luck with the Laney's I've used....great amps, solidly built using pretty good parts....maybe it's something simple?

My JTM60 never had any problems, and it had plenty of loud use! :approve:

ZZ Top, Cream, Zep, etc.................. Sounds like a Tube Marshall to me.

I have a '68 SG that I bought when I was 17 (a long time ago). This guitar sounds awesome thru my 900 Combo. Search araound and see if you can find a used combo. They can be pretty resaonable. If you are looking for something newer the DSL's are an excellent sounding amp also. Any HB thru a Marshall will give you some awesomne tone expicially based on what you are playing..

I have both a jcm600 head, and a Traynor Blue 50 Combo. I use an SG into both for 90% of the time.

Never had problems with the Marshall, although I've "heard" of the issues. All I can offer is my own experience, and that's a been good one.

The Traynor is a real sweet amp too. I like'm both.

Not sure which I'd pick if I only had to pick one.

My bad, just relating the issues I've heard...the only reason other then the problems I've heard of with the JTM60 and JCM600 amps is that the ones I did look at all had 6L6 power tubes instead of EL34 :smack:

Re: I can't believe I bought this POS!!!!

I just bought the Traynor Blue. Should have it early next week and will follow-up with a detailed review!
