I have a guitar with HSH. Neck 59; ssl5rwrp;sh4 jb. The humbuckers in positions 2 and 4 combinates all (not split) with the middle pickup. My question is if normal that i cant distinguish properly the differenses in the sound in position 2 and 4. For me sounds very similiar that in positions 1 and 5. It doesnt sound bad but the changes are not to agressive. Thanks

Both of them will have a clucky sound, which is maybe the similar sound you are hearing.

What amp setting do you have when you compare?? Is it full clean tone?

The other part is that all of your pickups are fairly high-ish type output. The 2 and 4 positions often sound best and more different when the middle pickup is low output. Anyhow if you are happy then that is what matters most.
And often some familiarity with the tones can lead you to find the small differences that you missed before.

For practice i have a mashall mg15 cf. And for live activity a laney hard core max. I always use the bass in 2 middle in 9 and treble in 3. In clean i can hear the changes better that with distocion. Thanks!!!

If the volumes are similar throughout than thats a good thing.

As a sweeping generalisation, the bridge/middle pair should sound brighter than the middle/neck pair, lending itself better to strumming. (THINK: Early Dire Straits.) The middle/neck pair, having a fuller tone, should suit single note lead playing. (THINK: Robert Cray.)
