More like a personal goal really. I'll see if I can put up some pics of my little rig as is and then when my XTC arrives.
This reminds me of the time I won employee of the year when I was self employed.

You can make fun but a lot can be said for hard work. Some guys go out and spend money they don't have when they should be looking for work. A lot of people run up credit card bills and are forced to sell because they can't keep up with credit card payments. Most others make excuses why they can't afford the nice stuff. I'm not rich by any means, but with a little discipline and extra work, I was able to build a pretty nice amateur rig. The 20th Anniversary XTC is a $4500 head. Some people may laugh at that price tag, but to an average income maker like my self, it's a lofty goal (if you're responsible with your credit).
It takes months and months, socking away $50 and $100 here and there, in order to save up for that kind of purchase. Some people scoff at that because they can or can't afford it, but to someone who worked every step of the way, it's a reason to celebrate. I'm just trying to share a message with people out there who dream about an awesome rig but can't necessarily afford it.
Maybe I'm old-fashioned because it seems like everyone has a sense of entitlement these days. They scoff at the idea of working a second job or mowing lawns for extra cash and stuff like that. I know a lot of people who are out of work yet they go out and spend $500-700 and rave about the new MIM strat or Epiphone Les Paul they bought while their wives were off paying the bills. When I ask them why they got in trouble with their wives for doing something so irresponsible, their excuses always boil down to the fact that they felt like they needed to treat themselves to a new piece of gear. It's a clear difference between the other guys I know who put in their time, make responsible decisions, and end up getting an American strat or a Gibson Les Paul traditional instead of settling for a knock-off.
I have been that irresponsible guy before but decided to stop making excuses a long time ago. In addition, I also wasted a lot of money settling for something nice, but a step or two away from what I really wanted. My philosophy has changed and now I say that you should get exactly what you want and that you can do it if you make it your goal. I know other guys who save up for a couple of months and start feeling like it will take too long to reach their goal so they go out and look for bargains instead of getting what they really want. Then they're never 100% happy with their purchases (that has happened to me a lot). This is quite an accomplishment for me considering that I pay my bills, feed my family, pay student loans, and can hardly afford any extra expenses. In no way am I showing off. In fact, I'm quite humble because I know guys who spend more on tee-shirts every year than I paid for my amp. I just want to inspire some other guys out there. Take it for what it's worth.
