I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

Yeah - those geranium pedals are good.....
but I prefer the fuschia units in the magnolia cases.

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

Geraniums are not commonly used because of the difficulty in soldering them. However, they are a lot less temperature-sensitive than germanium. Also the Geranium pedals tend to suffer from the watering that they require during the warmer months. And they tend to attract bees, which may be how some people get that buzzy sound.

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

Pretty expensive for a box of flowers!I think i will stick to traditional components like transistors myself.Although the Green organic low carbon footprint seems ecologically sound. Then again if I was going to pay that much for a box of flowers i might get one full of those resin based ones.:friday:

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

Some of those old Geranium pedals also used 'tropical fish' capacitors, which were made by pushing a piece of wire through a tropical fish....they have the most organic sound, although as time passes, the Geraniums tend to dry out the tropical fish. But the drying fish seem to keep the bees away.

Pushing a piece of wire through a tropical fish..... :eyecrazy:

THAT explains the weird sound I get:

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

That'd be fish oil electrolyte based I guess?Scaled capacitance has a great variable factor for that enharmonic distortion so sought after by Gill heads.
Smells a bit if they overheat though :spam: unless they're in a sealed container.

Yes, the Oil-In-Fish capacitors certainly add colour and a pungent punch, but it's the Geraniums that let the notes and chords 'bloom'.

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

Fulltone boo-boo'd when they shipped a batch of FloralChlange mis-labelled ChoralFlange, my how we laughed, before replacing the fat in our FatBoost2 pedals with Omega-3 Fish Oil. But, like I said, Magnolia does it for moi.....

I bind them with florist wire for solderless connections,it makes it a bit easier!

Is that wire available with vintage braided cloth covering? Some of the retro/boutique cork sniffers will need that feature.

It is fabulous to have such deep technical knowledge shared here, and it's threads like these that must surely make this forum one of the greatest resources anywhere on the internet. The Seymour Duncan User's Gardening/ Fish site rocks !!!!

I'm not sure about the braided covering .I stick to green because it's readily available and ecologically the right colour!

Unfortunately things have never been quite the same since Walters left and hasn't returned.

Re: I didn't know fulltone made their fuzz out of plants

vladmarr - I hope you are not casting nasturtiums at the geranium pedal lovers.
We love the tone enhancement that a good paint-job gives, I mean.....
