Re: I Dont Understand?????
From what I have read, in the 60's and seventies bands who got signed to major record labels mostly all got to make like 3 albums. Even if the first & second album weren't successfull, they got another shot. They had time to develop their acts. Now, it's one shot and your out. And that's if your lucky enought to get that one shot.
There is alot of consolidation is radio, less variety and big big bucks behind most of the artists who make it. Your lucky if you get one song into rotation on mainstream radio. For videos there's almost no outlet, even MTV doesn't play too many these days.
I hope that with satellite radio, there will be a venue to play more of a variety of music to a wide audience. Other than that alot of bands starting out would probably make more money off selling there own CD's and T-shirts on their websites and at shows. Concentrate on developing a local following and touring and playing everywhere they can. Then if they get a big enough on their own, the record companies should come calling. Not that I'm a big Kid Rock fan, but he did it this way. I saw it on behind the music on VH-1.

There are a few exceptions, IMO, but for the most part I feel it's all the same crap rehashed. When is the last time you heard a cool song and you could dig the whole cd? Those guys in the late 60s, 70s, and early 80s, they had it going on. Maybe I'm stuck in a time trap, I dunno. But I can only think of a handful of rock bands that have consistently captured my interest in the past decade or so.
