$100 Guitar Cables.... :nana:

Does the $13,000 Brazilian Dream Slash Les Paul come with one?

To be fair, it was twice the thickness of a normal stage cable and had the "silent" jacks. -which are worth nothing to me.

They would sell them at twice the price, I am guessing. Most likely to someone that will never use them on a stage.

What's a "silent plug"?

Re: I figured Gibson's plan to right the ship and get out of debt.....***suspense***

Just looked it up for the sake of curiosity. Here’s an example:

Interesting is the warning about using these plugs on amp. outs. i.e. it appears they short the signal (somehow) to mute the guitar output but this is not what you want on an amp. out. obviously.

As far as the Gibson cables go. Dunno. I’d pay that based on what I’ve just read about them. I’m sure there is a premium being paid for the name but no different from Fender (I only have Fender California Series cables and while they’re great they’re not that cheap foot-by-foot and the Gibson cables sure do appear to be far better cables e.g. more shielding, greater flexibility, greater thickness, and probably less capacitance). But that’s just me I guess i.e. always a sucker for specs. and branding!!! LOL!!!

Silent cables short the signal when one end of the cable is unplugged. That way you don't pick up room noise or the sound of a buzzed old man fumbling around to put the cord in without looking.

For $100 after tax, that thing doesn't look all that bad. Silent jacks are really nice, it looks like it will last a darn long time, plus it's oxygen free, gluten free, and cage free (probably). Even if it's not all that in a bag of potato chips, the premium cord market is no stranger to price gouging.

New 25 Mogamis with silenplugs are in fact $90 https://www.amazon.com/Mogami-GOLD-INST-SILENT-S-25R/dp/B00KANNQ26

The plugs are $15. Have one and I've never really found it that useful since I always mute everything when I plug/unplug out of habit, even at home. I use mostly wireless now so maybe it's just not for me.

also, the impact of oxygen free cable at guitar frequencies is dubious at best.

Producing a high margin product for an already existing market segment doesn't sound like such a bad idea to me, but what do I know?

Yep. They’re in the business of making money. Let’s just hope current leadership doesn’t continue to try to exploit that fact in other areas. I think that’s where they went wrong this past decade.

On the surface sure, but that's a wild over-simplification of Gibson's position. you have to factor opportunity costs, managing and borrowing against debt to manufacture products etc etc -and where to spend you money to produce actual products -sinking money into a tiny super high end segment when your core competency of Guitar and instrument manufacturing has eroded due to the mismanagement, and market changes has to be considered. Sure they want to be diverse and get the complimentary business, but that's part of what got them in this predicament to begin with.

Nah. I'd say they just sold the name and distribution network for the cable manufacturer. Easy money.

yeah, that's a good point -but that's how they got into a quality hole in the first place -spread thin, poor oversight, contract mfgs, trying to be ubiquitous in the lifestyle segment etc etc . -although Mogami components are a terrible example of that granted -as it's truly premium.

We'll see if this new guy get's them focused.

High dollar guitar cables have been done before and still are so this Gibson cable is probably more "honest" than the Gibson reissue "Bumblebee" caps ...

If it was a Gibson branded toaster or blender, I would share your opinion. This is a guitar cable, Fender has been selling branded cables as long as I've been playing. Gibson also positions themselves as a premium brand, so a premium cable makes all the sense in the world.

Yeah, good point also -I don't disagree -Gibson did get close to blenders 3 years ago -they were trying for the full ill fated Harley Davidson model -but 92.99 cables are I guess even more so -ultra premium and very low volume, so I will be surprised if these last through the simplification of Gibson.

Although, my Grandfather always told me if you want to make money -see them what they want, not what they need.
