I finally got myself a new Fender American Strat! Olympic white, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. It came routed for H/S/H so I could easily put some humbuckers in. I replaced the bridge pickup with a DiMarzio Super Distortion and put a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck position. The middle pickup is still stock. I brought it to a tech near me to install the pickups and he gave me some wiring ideas. He replaced the original switch with a 5-way super switch and wired the pickups like this:
Position 1: Bridge humbucker
Position 2: Inside coil of bridge humbucker
Position 3: Bridge and neck humbuckers together
Position 4: Outside coil of neck humbucker
Position 5: Neck humbucker
As you can see with this setup the middle pickup isn’t included in any of the positions. It is wired to one of the tone knobs so I can use the middle pickup with any of these positions, so I have 10 different combinations. It sounds really good combined with positions 2 and 4. Some of the combinations don’t sound the best, but I can still get about 7 or 8 nice sounds from this setup. Obviously I can’t use the middle pickup on its own, but that doesn’t matter because I would never use it anyway!
So anyway that’s it, thanks for looking. Here’s a few pics:
