I got a new Fender US Strat with mods (and pics!)

I finally got myself a new Fender American Strat! Olympic white, alder body, maple neck with rosewood fingerboard. It came routed for H/S/H so I could easily put some humbuckers in. I replaced the bridge pickup with a DiMarzio Super Distortion and put a DiMarzio PAF Pro in the neck position. The middle pickup is still stock. I brought it to a tech near me to install the pickups and he gave me some wiring ideas. He replaced the original switch with a 5-way super switch and wired the pickups like this:

Position 1: Bridge humbucker
Position 2: Inside coil of bridge humbucker
Position 3: Bridge and neck humbuckers together
Position 4: Outside coil of neck humbucker
Position 5: Neck humbucker

As you can see with this setup the middle pickup isn’t included in any of the positions. It is wired to one of the tone knobs so I can use the middle pickup with any of these positions, so I have 10 different combinations. It sounds really good combined with positions 2 and 4. Some of the combinations don’t sound the best, but I can still get about 7 or 8 nice sounds from this setup. Obviously I can’t use the middle pickup on its own, but that doesn’t matter because I would never use it anyway!

So anyway that’s it, thanks for looking. Here’s a few pics:

I love olympic white strats, one of the only colors I like strats in. Looks like an awesome guitar, even if it has DiMarzios :D

:chairfall Yeah all my other guitars have Duncans in them but I just decided to try the DiMarzios. So far I'm very impressed, the Super Distortion has a great crunch to it.

The guitar plays really well, a lot better than my MIM strat. The neck is so easy to play!

Great looking ax, bro. That's one of those occasions where the rosewood fingerboard looks perfect with the other colors. Glad you're digging the pups, even if you did go to the Dark Side. :D

Enjoy it!

For some reason I have an affinity for the HSH setup. Despite not really liking the H component to any degree anyway...

Anyways, that actually almost makes up for the guitar being white :D

paint it something bright. Or at least get pink bobbins for the humbuckers :laugh2:

Very classy looking strat! In fact, only thing I'd change is the wiring scheme, but that's a "season to taste" type modification anyway. Enjoy.

I love white strats too!!!!! Man that is nice and i like DiMarzio's as well... Just not a fan of their Super Distortion model myself... But still it is a nice strat

Nothing like a good American Strat. I've owned plenty of different strats from Japanese to Custom Shop, and a regular Am Std/Series still feels and sounds best to me, once the pickups are swapped.

I've been tempted to make all the leads that are wired to the guitar detacheable, so I can have multiple pickguards, wired differently. Then, when changing strings I could go for something different. I'd like to have an HSH strat, but have all mine setup with SSS.

Is there connectors you could solder on a pickup lead to make them detacheable? years ago i thought of doing this and then not much useful parts came to mind.... i even though of using 9-volt battery wires as one on each end they can snap together... But after thinking about my crazy idea i thought it would be bad for tone.. and need extra sheilding

My next strat is going to be olympic white vintage one.

That wiring scheme is amazing!! If i would have been able to find a superswitch at any store by me and had any free time to wire it to my liking that would have been exactly how I'd have had mine done.
