hey guys im back in a band and im going for an amp, i play swedish metal and classic rock stuff, i need one though with badass gain and sweet warm clean tube sound, this will be a halfstack, i also shred alot

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

get a Peavey Transtube head. Alot easier to maintain and care for, but some of the best SS "real tube" sounds I've ever heard. I'm serious, if you were blindfolded and played this amp, you would think it was tubes. They can go from Fender clean spank and vintage overdrive, to modern Mesa gain, to the Bogner superdrive. Theyre alot for a little.

im goin for tube my friends have transtube its cool but i dont dig it so much, them knucklehead riveras look pretty cool though

I have to disagree with you on this.... I've played shows with the amps running my guitar and I've seen tons of shows played by people with these amps. I played through the 2X12 with a Marshal 2X12 cab under it. It actually sounded VERY brittle and starchy clean, not spanky in the least bit (no matter what controls I played with, the only way to get rid of the sterility was to turn it down to "bedroom level,") the "OVERDRIVE" on the amp was nothing but unabashed full on distortion, great for shredding and metal rhythm, but I wouldn't give it a second chance to do anything else. Lucky I played that show on that amp, or I'd'a gotten one.

Now, back to the amps! The Riv's, they're no good for shredding, they're very "mid-rich," for something to shred on with a buxom clean channel, I'd say, "go with a mesa," although I'm a british man. A triple recto would do you some good, but I'd suggest getting the 2X12 combo for the sake of size. They got a high-end that'll cut and sound pretty cool in full distortion and their clean usually has enough volume to be heard well, too.

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

im using a triple recto stack right now im my band its too muddy i want something like in flames tone the 5150 but a little more warm and plus the clean tone sucks on that so i need something with amazing clean tone warm jazzy smoothing creamy tone

Best deal on guitar amplification on earth. Without question. Call Trace & tell him what you want. You will get the tone without all the frills. A true "Musician's Friend"

Well, that's not really possible, short of a moddeling amp (but, you don't want one of those, cuase it sucks tone out) or an amp switcher. IMHO, the clean tone a Triple Recto is pretty good for what kind of amp it is. Anyway, for the setup you want, get a single or double recto, a Fender Twin and a Morely AB box, that's the only ways I can come up with, anyone got any better suggestions?

by the way, you're descriptioin was kind of vague, what kind of power do you need? What kind of guitar do you use? What amps do you use and have tried? What amps do you like or dislike and why?

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

The 5150 II has better cleans and is a tad warmer, as the is the XXX, but it's a totally different monster. I'd say go rack, ADA MP-1 and mod it, through a peavey tube poweramp.

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

i like to stay away from ada, not my cup of tea but right now i got a strat with poplar body and maple fretboard with jb jr in bridge and hot rail imma bout to get in the neck, but im also gonna get a another strat and put some vintage pickups in it, any comments on the rivera knuckleheads? or a bogner? i heard bogner had some rippin gain and creamy clean

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

I think an ENGL Screamer 50 or Fireball would be good for what you want. Very versitile amps.

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

Indie, I dont know what Transtube you've played, but all the ones that I've gigged with, and the one I keep at home are great. One of the best guitarists in town uses one, and I dont disagree with his tone. As for you Studio, I say go sit down and try everything you can. You never know what you might like. Take along your main and backup guitar (if you have one) and test out every single amp you can.

I know what I heard and what I heard wasn't anywhere near tube. It was brash, abbrassive and very metally. It's great for shredding, I'll give it that, but it sounds nothing like a tube amp, I won't give it that.

How much do you have to spend? If you can scrape together enough cash, it sounds like the new Peavey JSX would be perfect for you.

i agree with indie on this one, my friend had a transtube, doesnt sounds much like tubes at all. Studio, what's your budget?

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

my transtube (rage 155 or somethin like that) must be a gem cause mine sounds suprisingly really good......and i have a twin and a hiwatt and played all sorts of tube amps, but this thing must be a freak accident or somethin cause its real nice... not near the level of my real tube amps, but shii, for 90 bucks or w/e, great for playin at home.... my dad, who has been playin for 42 years now, also agrees that it sounds remarkebly good also, and hes played just about every vintage amps ever made lol

You just described the Bogner Ecstacy to a t. Question is... Can you afford one?

Just about every high-gain boutique amp offers that. There's a reason they're so expensive and so many name players use them.

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

My transtube is FAAAAR from metally. I can get awsome Buddy Guy clean tones that just rock for "Mary had a little lamb" and "Leave my girl alone" to great vintage od i.e. ZZ top (old school), to Satch's high gain creamy distortion, and everything in between. Maybe the one you got was a fluke? Every Transtube I've played was awsome, and could probably only be improved (w/o extensively modding it) was a speaker change.

That's cause you're not able to fill it's 150W mammothry! No, I don't think that's a real word, but you understand! I traded in my Triple for a Single and problem solved, a world's tonal difference. Great cleans - glassy, bright, and smooth. Dirty, well, we all know how Boogie's are!

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

My question:

If you play even a little metal, why the hell are you getting another strat? You need a dual hum guitar to really play metal, or at least an H/S/S setup.

Re: I got money for an amp which one though

Any ENGL head with an ENGL 4x12. Heads like the SE if you can afford it, or a powerball, savage, screamer or fireball. All will do what you want with style!
