i've always hated flying v guitars. if anything ever came close to something i MIGHT like, it would have been the randy rhodes jackson v that costs like $3000. now there's this friggin gibson flying v.

i don't know what it is, but i played it once and since i keep thinking about it. i hate the guitar, but oh man did it play awesome and sound awesome. the one i saw looked like this with an ebony fretboard and it was only like $900

That looks awesome! Can the pickguard be taken off, or will that render the control panel useless? If you could take the pickguard off, that guitar would look awesome. Or... since it's black, if you put a mirror pickguard on it, you can do the "Lynott/Sykes" thing but with a Flying V!

hell, i like it with the pickguard. in fact, i haven't seen a gibson flying v without one for a long time. i wonder if they make them without pickguards

Because you need something new to GAS over each and every week

i hate them too, but this one :32:

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

I always thought V's looked cool. I've never played one before, though.

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

Barb, you don't need an amp. You need that Flying V and you need this.

Seriously.

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

Got the same one, color and all. I was looking for a V when I came across the Dean. I played the EPI Goth and the Dean kicked its a**. I had EMG 81/85 put in mine. The stock p/u deal sounded muddy. I haven't tried the Faded Gibson V yet. Might get one of those if it plays nice.

Q: Why do you dig that V?

A: You found the needle in the haystack, the one production Gibson less than $1,000,000 that they make each year that doesn't play and sound like arse. It's like winning the lottery.

ha ha ha ha! that was terrific. i'm should do like those other guys and use that quote in my signature line.

maybe that's a good thing because one day i might have a hall of guitars to walk through and a room full of amps to play one. hell, i might even have my own friggin recording studio. i love guitars and guitar equipment. i like to play different stuff all the time. when i'm at work, all i think about is playing guitar. sooner or later that's all i'll do. what a great life that is for me to look forward to

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

If you really want to give yourself V GAS pick up some Dean V's, 79 series or better.

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

Normally V's aren't my thing either but a buddy bought one I really liked. It's a faded that's a little different than the models currently sold in GC because it has an ebony fretboard.

I played the thing, fell in love, and now I own it. Seriously, it's one of the best playing and sounding guitars I've ever owned.

I say get the thing as it will grow on you.

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

I've got that exact Gibson V...I bought it un-used on Ebay last year for $629 with case....I always wanted a V-(KK Downinig fan) It's a great guitar.........I was thinking of changing the pickguard to a B/W/B one so it almost vanishes....a mirrored one would look too "Faith No More".....in my opinion!

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

I love Vs.
Got no use for them absolutely - but I still love the way they look...

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

I always thought Flying V's were pretty cool. I just don't want to play a guitar that looks like it's about to take off!

But we're talking about a guitar with great fret access, all the way to the top of a Gibson set neck, and they're known to be very lightweight guitars, and they have more  factor than most of the other choices.

How could you not want one?

Some of the 80's(?) ones didn't,& one of the GOTWs is a lame-o-looking(IMO) Silverburst w/o a p/g...

what factor pete? skirt lifting factor? yeah v's are incredible.

Re: I Hate V's, So Why Am I Drawn To This One?

V's are metal.

I mean you can do metal without a V but that's not TR00.

Get it.
