I never really got along with any fuzz that I played... so I really did not even want a fuzz.
I was looking around on my local Craigslist, and saw an Addrock Hism Scism fuzz. Price was good, so I said screw it. Addrock stuff isn't made anymore, and the guy who made em lives locally... so it is kinda nostalgic or what have you.
The Hism Scism is a Silicon based fuzz with an input knob (controls the amount of input signal... turning it up gives more low end and 'squash' and down cleans it up and opens it up), a fuzz knob, a high cut switch (to use between fender and marshall amps), and an output knob.
I really really like this thing so far. No volume problems as the output can boost with no problem. It uses BC107 and not 108s, and supposedly makes it a bunch more smoother, I can see that as this thing is very smooth.
It cleans up well with volume knob as well, which Si fuzzes don't I hear.
It also doesn't have quite the gain on tap as most Si fuzzes from what I have gathered, and I can see that as well. When on a clean amp, you have to get the fuzz to about 3 o'clock to have a lot of saturation. Not a bad thing, as it is still clear (for a fuzz!).
I can almost use this as a metal distortion if I run my eq after it and lower the bass frequency a bit to take out that fuzz low end.
I won't use anything else for thick syrupy solo tones, I can tell you that much! My TS-9 sounds all thin compared to it! Granted two different animals.
