Hey Joe, usually the basswood set neck's go for anywhere from $200 to $400 (which is what this one is..) The mahogany body Ibanez's go from $400 to $1,000...these are quite rare and you can tell from the pics which of the two they are....."dings" on the basswood show up as really bright exposed wood, mahogany dings show up as almost non-existent... mahogany is really dark to begin with and Ibanez almost always finished the backs of these with a transparent red instead of the solid red on this one.

Mahogany Ibanez Destroyer's are the most sought after, for both "sonic" and "resale" value.... they will never decrease in value. However, the "X" series has two distinctly different necks, the one's that angle back down by the tuners..(like LP's) are killer, while the necks that are straight (like Strat's) are almost worthless...different radius, different width entirely...the early necks are my personal favorite and I can play 5x faster on those than any Gibson neck......not much info on the Ibanez's on the web....so here you go!

you know i am a personal believer that if you have too many guitars you dont have enough time to pay attention to them and put 'magic' in them.

i think that about 3-4 guitars is about the max you should ever need to express yourself musically, unless you are a studio musician and need to have a bunch of different musical sounds and personalities.

think about that all the famous players never played more than one or two guitars over prolonged periods of time. actually most of them stuck to one guitar for a loooong time. like Halen. he has a gazzilion guitars but used one for periods of years before switching to others ( and i dont mean playing live, backups etc..)

i think my dream would be to own about 3 guitars max, to express myself.
plus for me to fall in love with them and have a more magic relationship with them.

kinda like your first guitar.

then of course if you got tons of money go for it.

but i still think the magic gets lost.

did this make you not buy it???

You seem to have all of this really high calibur gear Jeff, so why not save up a few more hundred and buy the real deal mahogany one? You know if you spontaneously take the bite with this one that in the back of your mind you'll be thinking of how it has the cheaper basswood neck and that you wish it was better.

Now go and play that Gibson doubleneck for me!

Hey Jeff...... Welcome to the Club. I think most of the guys here have very similar addictions. I also share ALL of your addictions except for maybe beer. I am more of a Jack Daniels man.... espicially the Green label!!

I tried to slim down the collection myself. Six months ago I had 13 guitars. Got myself down to 5 but am back up to 8. I ran into a few offers that I'd be insane to refuse and even if I sold them now I would easily make a 200% profit. I had a Destroyer back in the late 80's. Loved it! And I'd certainly dig having one now.

Without vices my fellow guitar jockeys... We wouldn't be human..!

Now THAT's a rare find! I don't seek out early Ibanez Destroyers the way you do, but if I found one of those, I'd be damn tempted. I always loved the look of that Pyromania era guitar.

actually has the later model neck, and I have no interest in these.....

I am very particular about what I buy, and I don't buy things unless I plan on using them.... The mahogany DII's are rare indeed, and only one has come up in the past two years....(I'm not paying $1,400 for one!)...

Believe it or not, most of my gear took a lot of time to get to where it is, and I'm one of the best when it comes to recognizing deals worth pursuing... case in point..

1956 Gibson Les Paul Junior cost me almost nothing...(traded one Gibson PU for it!)
1981 DII...traded a Peavey Bandit for it in 1983
1982 DII...(mahogany body) traded my '62 Bassman w/212 cab for this...
1982 DII...$70
1983 DII...$230
1984 DII...$75...(rarely get's played, but still one of my "babe's")
1987 Gibson EDS-1275...$1,600 (exact blue book value!)
1989 Gibson Explorer... $300

Takamine Acoustic/Electric.....$150....(has a dime sized hole in the side!)

1989 Marshall 2210 full stack.....$2,400 in 1989..(the only full retail purchase!)

However, almost all of these required some additional work...
Anyway, there are only two items I regularly seek..... '81 to '84 Ibanez DII's and a Marshall JCM800 model 2000...(don't have one of these yet!)

...I was outbid on the DII in the first post anyway, there's another one newly listed...probably won't get it either....

...I ain't rich, just "prudent" on my purchases......
